Hi there,

I had 6 treatments spaced 3 weeks apart.  How about you?  I see that you had the same chemo and I haven't found very many other women that have.

I was diagnosed 6/06 so I'm 4.5 years out. My surgeon considers me "cured", my onco is not quite as positive but will consider me ned. I had a bilateral mastectomy and 4 rounds of ac. I don't know my BRCA status but as that this disease killed both my mother and her mother at very young ages I've always assumed I'm positive (we are Ashkanzie Jews as well). I also had a complete hysterectomy in 07, just in case. My cancer was only stage 1 (1cm) no nodes but ki67 of 54 and grade 3/3. My gyno found the lump during a routine exam (it never did show on a mamo) and my surgeon swears that my gyno saved my life. I was 46 at diagnoses. My mother was 36 at diagnosis and we think that her mother was even younger. Chemo was brutal but it sure beats the alternative.
Dx June 06 stage 1 at age 46, no nodes, clean margins, Ki-67 at 54, Bilateral Mastectomy, 4 rounds AC, complete hysterectomy Aug O7. Mother and Grandmother both died of breast cancer dx in their 30's.

Eltonswife,

I had 6 treatments 3 weeks apart like you. My onc told me they usually do only 4 txs, but did 2 extra due to the triple neg. Yes, there aren`t many in the U.S  who still get FEC,  I`ve noticed mostly in Europe & Canada (like you). When I questioned my onc why I didn`t get a Taxane, he said the FEC was a powerful chemo that he believed does a good job on TN. I hope he`s right!! I donm`t know about you but it kicked MY butt! And I am a strong woman.

Susanb,
Thankyou for sharing your story. I`m so sorry for the losses of your Mom & Grandmother.   I hope you are indeed "cured" and live to a ripe old age.

Hi Terri,

I must agree, the FEC Chemo really knocked me on my butt too.  I've never been hospitalized, had surgery or any serious illness before my diagnosis. I considered myself very healthy and strong.  Isn't it amazing what we can do to ourselves and still bounce back after?!

take care
Liane

Dear Connie and other TNBC sisters,

I do hang our here on the boards hoping to offer hope to women just being diagnosed, in treatment, or just finishing treatment. Just read my signature and see that my cancer was stage IIb, 1 positive node, triple negative; not the best scenario, but I decided to fight. I did not have reconstruction and don't plan to. I would add that my oncologists recommends that none of us should rush the reconstruction process. He recommends finishing all surgeries and treatments and a time of healing before begining reconstruction. Just some food for thought.

God Bless,
Lillie

I am over 2 years out from dx, my onc says first 2 years after chemo ends are the most risky.  So my next milestone is March 2011.  Then my onc visits drop to once every 6 months.  Just had a clear MRI.  My husband and I have booked a trip to Paris in May and I'm so hoping to go on that trip (we bought travel insurance though, just in case).  I feel great, just super, but still follow this board on a daily basis because I empathize with all who are here and know that in a heartbeat I could be fighting again too.

One upside to my bc experience: I recently spent an entire weekend trying to fly out to Calif to visit family, from our snow-bound Minneapolis airport.  Yes, it was a hassle, but all I could do was sit there and think how lucky am I to be alive and sitting here in this airport.   And yes, my daughter and I finally made it out and had a wonderful (shortened) trip.

Best to All,
Alison

Alison good news on that clear MRI!

I've been seeing pics of the football stadium up there filled with snow, the workers working hard to clear it out all week on the news!
I have been snowed in after 3 blizzards in a row waiting to get out of town, sure do understand that frustration, glad you were finally able to get out of there!

The Paris trip sounds wonderful, something exciting to look forward to, enjoy planning and getting ready for that trip.

Alison,

Congrats on the clear MRI!  I love your idea of celebrating with a trip to Paris.  We took several trips this past summer and I'm so happy we did.  I have all the memories and pictures to carry me through.  I so hope you love your trip.  You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back.

Dear Alison,

Isn't it awesome how surviving cancer can make you thankful to be alive in a crowded airport and not complain about a shortened trip. I totally understand what you are saying. It has worked for me in so many ways since June 2006.
