Note to Tracy: Before they inject the dye to see which is your sentinel node, where it drains, etc., make sure they give you some numbing medication because that needle goes right into the nipple area and OMG - ouch! Mine wasn't just dye, it was "only about 2-3 drops of dye along with a radioactive material." The radioactive part was to make the sentinel node warm to the touch, as well as dyed. I thought - oh well, 2-3 drops is no big deal. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced - like a swarm of bees stinging you on the bare chest. And was I ever mad when I got back to the pre-surg room and my Surgeon was not happy that I didn't get any local. On a lighter note, the lumpectomy vs. mastectomy has not changed since 2007. My surgeon said the same thing. I really hope you don't fret too much about your hair. It's not about the outside of any of us that counts, it's what is on the inside that has been and will always be there. Take care of you and stay positive that you will beat this! traci

getting ready to go in for my pre-chemo blood work up. Just had a fight with mom on the phone about bills for the cost of my care. She gave me some money to pay for some of these huge bills and somehow she started out of blue on my case about where it was being spent. I am very responsible and only use the money for bills. Long story short.. I told her I didn't want to argue since I have to worry about myself right in getting treated. I probably wont' talk to her for a while now.. I basically sent her an email saying she could have least waited until my treatment was over to argue...this is not the time to argue...all these problems with be sorted later. Just ruined my whole day.

I am so unhappy with my oncologist I switched to new one in the office also. For 4 days in the hospital she never once called or was reachable. Another one from the office saw me for 3 of the 4 days when I was there and was much more personal and he even tried to spring me early from the hospital. He was very open and I felt like I could talk to him more easily. I am completely glad I made the switch.

Dear Tracy,
I am sending you some Great Big Hugs.
Believe it or not, a lot of us have experienced great pain and stress from family, during treatment. That subject has been discussed a lot on various threads. I believe they are scared, don't know how to act, in denial, and don't have a clue unless they've experienced it themselves.
I wish I had answers for all your questions and could make all your pain go away, but I can't. Just know that you are not alone. We Love You and just keep on posting whatever is on your mind.
I know this sounds stupid, but try to have a good hair experience. I had a difficult time in the beginning, but wearing cute hats, my wig, bandannas and such turned out to be a neat experience. At Christmas I wore a Santa hat and knew it got a lot of attention. Experiencing the growth of new hair is a neat thing also. Please don't be sad and cry.
Love and God Bless,
Lillie

I found this clinical trial that I hope I can get on after my chemo and everything is over. It's worth a shot.

I am just going to try yoga, or take up some form of meditating or something to relax me. Put my mind in a place that is enjoyable.
I started to become a wig fanatic already. I am up to three wigs and I haven't even lost my hair yet. Its kind of fun. Its like I get to play anyone i want anytime.
I have heard when your hair is getting ready to fall out you should have some itching on your scalp? I"m just waiting on that to start. My chemo is Friday and 2 days after most of my hair should be gone I am guessing but no scalp itching yet.

Tracy,
Mine started on day 15. I remember I kept tugging at my hair each day and suddenly some strands came out around day 15. It took several more days before the rest fell out. We shaved it that night to about 1/8" long. You'll notice that right before it starts falling out your scalp will feel funny, an achy itchy type of feeling.

Tracy, I would highly reccomend Yoga, I continued to try to do it throughout treatment. I also had a friend doing Reiki on me. They both helped in relaxing me and felt good on my body.
As for the hair? I remember it just being an all over thinning at first, then bang. Natalie

I can tell the hair is thinning on my arms and legs and no more hair growth under my chin which is nice so I don't have to pluck anymore. I do notice gradual signs...I has a real bad problem of the itching my private parts last night. Is that normal? I got some cream to coat and soothe and I dont' have the need to itch was just curious if it could be from the chemo and if I should bring it up with nurse tomorrow.

could the itching be from the crapload of antibiotics they gave me in the hospital? I did not have it until I was out.

Hi Tracy,
You need to check with your doctor about the itch in your private parts. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections; and they really can cause intense itching and pain.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Lillie

I chatted with an online doc and he said to ask for Diflucan
I suppose I will call them in the a.m. to see how this is going to play out. I think they can give that to me an in iv and how that is going to mess up or maybe they can just give me cream.
Has anyone ever heard of that. My chemo is at 10 a.m. I will call the office as soon as it is open.

Tracy,
Glad you chatted with your doc. This is from drugs.com
Diflucan (fluconazole) is an antifungal antibiotic.
Diflucan is used to treat infections caused by fungus, which can invade any part of the body including the mouth, throat, esophagus, lungs, bladder, genital area, and the blood.
Diflucan is also used to prevent fungal infection in people with weak immune systems caused by cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases such as AIDS.
Diflucan may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
How should I take Diflucan?Take Diflucan exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Your dose will depend on the infection you are treating. Vaginal infections are often treated with only one pill. For other infections, your first dose may be a double dose. Carefully follow your doctor's instructions. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve. Take Diflucan with a full glass of water. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device , ask your pharmacist for one. Take Diflucan for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antifungal medication.

Chemo 2 over. Has some orange juice before which was a mistake. After the chemo that seemed to really irritate my lining. I am not really hungry. My face bones really hurt and I have such bad headache. Took a pain pill. Alternating between apple juice and water. Any advice is appreciated.

Tracy,
Too much juice on an empty stomach will definitely cause you to have an upset tummy. I would highly recommend some bread or crackers or something to go with the juice/water.
