Linda,

Sending you big Hugs.  We love you and the support you provide all of us.  You are absolutely right about the anxiety you're dealing with and how most people just don't understand.  We have your back and will always be here for you.  We know what you're going through, we get it.  I guess this is part of our new normal, but it really sucks sometimes.  What would we do without Ativan?

Hugs,

Donna

Linda,

Obviously, I forgot about the Martin Luther King Holiday.
Thanks for your post......you really do have the earliest appointment.
Thank you for making me feel better about your waiting.....hated to see you wait.......
but realistically speaking you do have the earliest appointment.
Think it is a great idea.....and think others have mentioned it....that you............
..." will explain to him how harrowing the wait is when a cancer patient must wait days
sitting on the edge."     So for those cases when there could be an earlier option, it can
happen.

Guess this gives us more time to have positive and hopeful thoughts and prayers for a
good report.

With caring and hopeful thoughts and many hugs,

Grateful for today...............Judy

Tracy, Thanks for asking about me. I finally found out late this afternoon the reason for needing to go back to the onc for more blood tests. It seems that my Vitamin B12 levels are very low and that is probably due to my body not absorbing what I take in from my diet and my multi-vitamins. So now, I will start taking it by injection for the rest of my life. This is something that may be a result of my age or it could be an auto-immune problem. I am looking forward to maybe this being the answer to my extreme fatigue since having my thyroid removed in 09. I would love to have my energy levels go up.

Hope you are doing well Tracy - you have been through so much.

Linda, you are still in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and focused on God. He will never fail you.

Hugs,
Genie

Dr. Oz's show today was on low levels of Vitamin B12.  Lots of great information and why we need it, especially as we age and don't absorb it as well.

Vitamin B12: The Most Important Nutrient You Aren’t Thinking About

By David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP
Director, Yale University Prevention Research Center
Director, Integrative Medicine Center at Griffin Hospital

If you aren’t getting enough vitamin B12, it is indeed very important – and you may very well not be thinking about it. One reason you aren’t thinking about it is that we tend to fall in (and out!) of love with one nutrient at a time (such as vitamin C, beta carotene, lycopene and so on), and vitamin B12 isn’t the nutrient du jour. But the other reason you may not be thinking about it is … because you can’t. A deficiency of vitamin B12 can limit your ability to think clearly about anything! (More on that momentarily.)

Like all vitamins, B12 is an organic compound, made from carbons (as opposed to minerals, which are inorganic), and essential for our normal metabolic function and health. Also, like most vitamins, B12 plays a wide variety of roles in our metabolism. The short list of important effects B12 has on your health includes these:

  1. Vitamin B12 is essential for the manufacture of red blood cells; a deficiency leads to a characteristic kind of anemia
  2. Vitamin B12 is needed to support the normal function of nerve cells, and to manufacture myelin, the insulating material that surrounds some of our nerve cells and speeds neural transmission
  3. Vitamin B12 is required for the replication of DNA

Each of these effects is obviously quite important, but note the third one in particular. When B12 is deficient, our DNA cannot replicate normally – meaning we can’t generate new, healthy cells. As a result, vitamin B12 deficiency can mimic all of the effects of aging.

Donna, thanks for the info. I missed Dr. Oz today. Never realized just how important B12 is to our overall health. I've had essential tremors for years and am now wondering if this might be a result of B12 deficiency. I also have a lot of neuropathy since chemo.

I am so thankful for my oncologist. She takes better care of me than my PCP. She always wants to know about any new complaint, etc. and will order the necessary tests. My PCP makes me feel like there isn't any reason to investigate other than she thought I might benefit from seeing a psychologist because my extreme fatigue could be a result of depression. I am probably the least depressed person I know. In spite of everything I've been through the past few years, I am happy and thankful for each day, for my family and friends. God has truly blessed me.

I am considering changing PCP's but with being on Medicare, it is becoming extremely difficult to find physicians who are willing to take new Medicare patients.

Hope you are doing well, Donna and that you continue to stay NED!

Hugs, Genie

It sounds like you have a very good oncologist that is looking at your entire health.  I'm glad she picked up on the B12 deficiency.  Let us know if it helps with the neuropathy.  I forgot to add from the Dr. Oz show yesterday, they also said the Sublingual (under the tongue) B12 supplements work very good for absorption.  I use it and take one each morning.  I believe Dr. Oz said you want at least 1000 mcg a day.  Mine is higher, but the good news if your body doesn't need it, it just goes out in your urine.

Take care!  Hugs,
Donna

Linda,
Your Doc sounds most impressive and I'm glad you are in such competent hands. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and over the weekend, and of course hoping for the very best results. Scans are just plain scary, even when the doctor is reassuring. Keep busy, exercise....and all those tricks you already know to deal with the waiting.

Thanks so much, Mity.  I appreciate it.  At least the scan will be done and over tomorrow - whatever will be there, will be there - so be it.  Then the interminable wait until Wednesday a.m.  Walking into his office for the appt. Weds. will be similar to walking before a firing line, I imagine!  Ugh!  Just got to have faith, all will be well.  Keep you posted.

So glad to hear it was just the B12 and nothing more serious.  Good luck with it - maybe we'll be seeing some "You Tubes" of you doing Zumbo or the like, real soon!

Linda,

I hope that you can soon look back on all this as a distant memory.  I know the coming week will be anxious for you, but at least you'll have your answers by next Wednesday.

Donna:

Thank you so very much.  At least tomorrow the dang CT will be done.  Then the slow crawl to Weds!  Scared to find out what I may hear.  I hate this soooooooo much, yet I realize it's something we all have to go through at one time or another, even if our results are good.  Just another crappy part of this disease.  Will keep you posted.  Have a good weekend!

Hi Linda,

Sending you an "automatically timed" hug to repeat every hour until you get your results.

Guess now is the time to do as many of your favorite things and as often as possible as
you wait for your results. (Easier said then done when waiting for results.)

With caring, positive and hopeful thoughts and hugs,

Grateful for today.................Judy
