I lost my sister and best friend, Tami to TNBC on May 12, 2011. Her original diagnosis was stage 3b ER+ in February 2009 (BRCA1+) she underwent bilateral mastectomy, chemo and radiation in 2009 and had just finished with her reconstruction and ooph when she was diagnosed with stage 4 TNBC in July 2010. She failed on the Parp trial and nothing seemed to keep the cancer from spreading. She suffered tremendously, but fought courageously. She was the single mother of a 16 1/2 year old daughter, who is now living with me as she is estranged from her father. My family is just heartbroken. Tami would have celebrated her 50th birthday on July 5th of this year. I will miss her every day of my life and watching her pass was the most difficult thing I have ever done. Watching her beautiful daughter grow up without her mom will be the hardest thing to come.

Hope19,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sister. Your pain, and her daughter's, must be unimagineable. May you both find comfort in each other and heal from this pain. There is nothing fair about this disease or the lives it affects. It's good to hear that Tami's daughter has a loving home to help her through this difficult time.

Thank you, Donna! I'm just praying that my niece is BRCA-. My daughter and I are both BRCA1+ and I have had PBM and ooph. My daughter is only 21 and wants to have her PBM next year when she graduates college. So very, very scary! What is IMRT Rads? Are you still NED (I pray)?

Can your neice get tested for the BRCA gene? I'd think the insurance companies would pay for it with her mother and your family history. Wishing that she doesn't have the gene, but knowing for sure can help you take preventative measures like you did and your daughter plans to. The IMRT rads is a newer type of radiation therapy called Tomotherapy, which is a computed tomography guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomotherapy I had to have whole breast and regional node radiation and have 6 treatments left. I was NED in February while on the Gem/Carbo/Iniparib treatment. The scan before radiation still showed NED. I know my onc will watch me very closely and I just pray this treatment works. Donna

I am so sorry to read your post. My heart breaks for you all in the loss of Tami. May God give you the strength to deal with this untimely loss of your sister, and in time, peace and serenity knowing that she is no longer suffering. It's comforting to know that your niece will not be alone through this and that she has you to stand by her, to love her and to guide her. My sincere condolences for your and the family's loss and pain.

Dear Hope19, I am so terribly sorry to read of your dear sisters passing. My prayer is that all BRCA testing is negative so that your family can continue on without that added worry. Linda, So nice to see you again. I miss your posts on SS. Donna, I had IMRT when I had my recurrence. So far, so good. That was two years ago this month.

Hope19,
I am so sorry for your loss and your family history with being BRACA positive. Thank God for your niece having such a wonderful aunt to try to pick up the pieces. I can tell by your post that you love her so much and you will be proactive with finding out if she is God forbid BRACA positive. I will pray for you and your family.

My dear friend, Sharon Mclean, lost her 16-month battle with Triple Negative Inflammatory Breast Cancer this morning. She has been a trooper throughout the many surgeries, treatments and excruciating pain she has had to endure to prolong her life. She is now at peace and pain-free. Hugs to my dear dear friend...I will truly miss her.

Judy (grateful for today) wrote and gave me directions about this forum and I want to take this opportunity to remember my sister Miriam who had lost her battle against triple negative in October 2010 after 2 years fighting. My family was only her and when I received the notice that she had cancer in end of 2008 was a shock for me!!!!!She discovered late and I knew at this moment that she will die and with my sadness I spent all the time I had during the 2 years with her. 2 months and half before she died I was diagnosed also with TNBC and was too much for me.Today almost 2,5 years ned I am always thinking that my sister could be with me with the same chances!!!!But life is not so easy!!!!She had courage, she helped all during the chemotherapy treatments and until the last minute she gave me support and I remember one day before to come to hospital Miriam told me: Judy WE will win this battle!!!!She knew that she was loosing the battle but she want to give me courage, I was after my first session of chemotherapy!!!!She always awl talking to me by phone and after instead to say good bay she always was saying JUDY P.S. TE AMO (In portuguese), I love you!!!So I want to say now MIRIAM PS. I LOVE YOU!!! and you continue to give me courage together our parents in other life and the minimum I can do is follow the example of life you, Mammy and PAPPY gave me in this life!!!!Missing you always!!!!!!
