Topic: Recent Reoccurance Posted: Jun 08 2009 at 2:58pm |

This is my first posting on this website. In 2006 I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I did 6 weeks of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. I had a lumpectomy. I had been in remission until March of 2009 I was diagnosed with the same cancer but in my lymph nodes in my chest wall. I have completed 5 chemo treatments with 3 more to go. I live in Ohio and am looking to talk with other women going thru a reoccurance.

Hi, I'm going through a recurrence somewhat like you right now. Your further along in your treatment since I'm in the limbo stage of waiting on appointments right now. My history is on the mets page. If you want to talk, let me know.

If you are near Columbus. Ohio The Wellness Community in Powell has a great breast cancer support group (I go every Tuesday night). We have several members who have had their breast cancer return. I'm currently the only triple negative but we've had other gals that are triple negative in the group before.

I live in the Cleveland area. I did attend a support group here but found it to be very difficult as the group had consisted of 4 men and 4 women. All 4 of the men passed away and only one woman was at the meeting. She is terminal with melanoma. I then decided to go online and see if I could find other people with a reoccurance with triple negative but again have found that there isn't any success stories. It's quite disheartning! The chemo is working for me right now and I'm positive about that but already worrying about when and if it will come back after I am done. This is an awful disease with very little options to conquer it.

Hi Tracy,
What is currently going on? When do you see your onocologist? Have you had scans done?

Hi Crose,
I had a CT, bone scan, & brain MRI last week. I go to see the oncologist this afternoon so am in limbo. After this visit, I'm going to try to get a second opinion appointment asap. The recommendation so far has been radiation only and I need more answers as to why. How are you doing with the chemo so far? Hope your doing okay. What chemo do they have you on?

Tracy,
I am on gemzar and taxatere. I am tolerating the chemo well. I do it every 2 weeks. The only side effect is my nail beds are tender and I get mouth sores. Let me know what happens with your doctor today.

Hi Crose and welcome.
I wanted you to know there are success stories. We have several members who have been out quite a few years who stop in now and then to let us know it can be done.
I of course am so very sorry you've had this come back, I too went thru the second diagnosis and did have the Taxotere but no Gemzar.
I am so glad to see you are tolerating the treatments, that helps.
If you go to the Resource section of our forum we have many tips for chemotherapy/rads, surgeries, and do our best to find current news that affects TNBC.
We hope you'll have a look around, there is much to see and we are upbeat here and work at supporting each other and learning together.
Best wishes and I hope you will stay in touch,

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I personally am really needing to read about success stories after reoccurance. It gives me hope and shows me how important it is to never give up and fight!
