Hello,
I had my third chemo treatment on 4/8/16 and it by far has been the worst.   Last Thursday I started with a rash and whelps; it has been going on up to today.  I have been taking Benadryl and decadron.  I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this?  I have another treatment next Friday and I am so worried.  Plus I have gained 5 pounds in a matter of a few days and I haven't been eating any differently.
thanks for listening.

Hi Brenda,

I hope things have improved!  I didn't exactly have that experience, but I've heard of similar things.  Towards the very end of my 5 months of neoadjuvant chemo, I did get a "radiation recall" rash (basically, wherever I had sun damage).  It wasn't awful, but I was glad to get rid of it!  Everyone seems to get slightly different reactions.  I hope you've keep your nurse and/or oncologist up to date on your symptoms--that's what they are there for, and they can be really helpful!  Good luck!

Brenda,

What chemo are you getting?  After my 3rd treatment of Cytoxin/Taxotere, I developed a whelp type rash that seemed to travel all over my body and itched, especially my feet and hands.  I tried benadryl and nothing worked.  I called my oncs office and she prescribed prednisone dose pack and almost immediately it got better and was gone within a few days.  I expected the same reaction after the 4th treatment, but it never happened.

Gaining weight is quite common with chemo.  I was surprised as I thought all lose weight.  It's probably the premeds and the steroids (decadron) attributing to much of the weight gain.

Your oncs office should have an on-call nurse 24 hours a day.  I would always give them a call if something didn't seem right.  Many times they'll give you a few suggestions to try or notify the onc who will be able to prescribe something to help the side effects.
