Tracy:

Where in Toronto did you have your BRCA testing done and how long have you been waiting?

I am still waiting for my results since March 2010.  It is so hard but the blood had to be sent to Toronto to be tested?  I don't get this at all.  The first part was checked here in NS but was inconclusive??? What does that mean and what about the second part that is somewhere in Toronto??? Heavens they do things so far fetched....
take care, your sister on the journey, Helen in NS

Helen,

You've been waiting since March 2010?  How did they send it - via carrier pigeon?  LOL  Do you think it got lost?  6 months it way too long my friend.

I am BRCA positive, and Triple Negative.  My sister and brother want  to get tested anonymously,  not thru insurance. A nurse told me about F.O.R.C.E.  How do they proceed? Thanks.

Hi;

I have two issues I'd love to get advice and to hear experiences about.  One is that my father had breast cancer and I was diagnosed May 2010 with TNBC.  I tested negative for BRCA 1&2.  I have 3 sisters and a brother and I'd like to get my father tested to rule out BRCA for all of them with one test instead of each of them having to do a test.  But the Veteran's Administration where he gets his care says its not medically necessary.  Any advice about how I can get my father tested?
And the second issue is that when I tested negative, my oncologist said "well, you tested negative for what we can test for, but with your father having breast cancer I still consider you high risk and you might want to think about having a prophylactic bilateral masectomy and an oopherectomy."  I decided against that and have had a lumpectomy and ancillery dissection with chemo and radiation.  I am considering the oopherectomy since I don't really need my ovaries anymore.  Do any of you have advice, experience to share on this issue of testing negative yet still being considered high risk?
Thanks - Cynthia

Hi Cynthia,

some questions-

1. has anyone in your family tested BRCA+?

2. did you have BART testing as part of your BRCA testing?

3. where in California do you live? I am about to post about an event at USC that you may find interesting.

you may wish to keep certain info private...I am sending you my contact info if you would like to talk.

all the best,

Steve
