Hi everyone. Very please and thankfull for your posts and this excellent webpage. I am currently undegroing a trial ac, taxol avastin, Reading thisnews is very stressfull. Is it because the cost of the drug?, The" overall survival rate" "quality of life" or the scarry rebound effects when the drug for any reason is stopped. And what would be the difference for beginning stages and later stages. Any comments greatly appreciated. I fell so lost. Thank you and God bless you all.Disapprove

Hi Polis,
From what I've read they are only talking about late stage breast cancer, not early stage.  The Avastin study I was in til January was to see if it helped early stage breast cancer.  That study isn't finished so there are no answers on that.  Avastin is pretty expensive and I think that's the main driving force.  If only one person was helped, I don't see not allowing it to be used.  One of us could be that one person.  I don't know what is going to happen to people that are already in a study or taking it without being in a study.  I'm glad I was in the study.  I didn't have any problems at all.  I hope that will be your situation, too.

Hi Poli,

I was also in an Avastin clinical trial for early breast cancer. I've read the recent news and they all mention that the FDA's decision was based on the results of studies in advanced BC. As Lee points out, the studies that we have been enrolled in are looking at the response of BC to Avastin in the adjuvant setting which as is the case with other cancer drugs, may be different from advanced cancer. The truth is that there are no enough results from these studies yet to know if Avastin does help or not as they gave it to us. Many doctors are hopeful that it does help. In fact some results recently published on studies on Avastin and ovarian cancer in the adjuvant setting showed positive results. You are in any even receiving the standard treatment available which is the AC and T which doctors know works in most cases. This is what helps me feel better; knowing that even if the Avastin ends up not making much difference I at least received a very good treatment.

Best,

Natalia
