Helen,
Somehow you knew.
I'll miss Christine's beautiful face in her posts. She had the most gorgeous blue eyes. My heart goes out to her and her daughter. I'm speechless and don't know what to say right now. I'm very sad. Sad that this terrible disease has taken another beautiful soul.

Obituary for Christine M. Pritchard
Mcfarland/ Madison
Christine M. Pritchard, age 31, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, after a brief enduring battle with breast cancer.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1978, in Madison, the daughter of George and Judith (Lindberger) Pritchard. Chris attended Holy Cross Lutheran School and Madison East High School, and graduated in 1996. Her caring, compassionate nature initiated her desire to further her education in the medical field. Chris was a certified nursing assistant and was recently working towards her nursing degree at Madison Area Technical College. She had a passion for music, playing the piano, animals, creative writing, love of family and friends, but the most important part of her life was her "Sweet Pea", Ariel.
Chris is survived by her daughter, Ariel Pritchard-Lasky; mother, Judy Pritchard; siblings, Susan (Jack) Smith and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Pritchard, both of Sarasota, Fla., Donna (Robert) Holmen of Kenosha, and Terri (William) Connery-Harris of Monona; sister of the heart, Beth (Phil) Saunders-Buss of Marshall; and nieces and nephews, Michael Holmen, Amy and Jack Smith Sr., Jessica Pritchard, and Jason and Michelle Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jed Lasky; her father, George; three brothers, Steven Connery, David Pritchard and Robert Pritchard; and a nephew, James Connery.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for an educational fund to be established for her daughter, Ariel.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the McFarland Community, "Share the Care" program, the staff at HospiceCare, and all other family and friends who have offered their love and support during this difficult time.
God saw you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
And whispered "Come to me."
A beautiful heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands now rest.
God broke our hearts
to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Hearing today that we have lost Christine, and finding out yesterday that a young 23 year old man whom Ashley was friends with and went to school with passed away early yesterday morning. He had been going through treatment for colon cancer right alongside her until he decided several months ago to stop treatment, and concentrate on quality of life. My heart is aching.

I am so sad to hear this news. Christine found out she had cancer at about the same time as I did. The stage and grade were about the same as mine. It is scary this cancer stuff. You really feel the loss when it happens to one of us and someone you had a connection with. I wanted to say hello and thank you to all of you who posted about my sister, Christine (Sapphire Skies).
She went so very fast. She was diagnoised 14 months ago. I have to say that I was very uneducated. I thought she is 30, young and strong and she will beat this cancer. I was wrong. I wish that I would have been there more for her at the beginning of her fight but I was definately there for her at the end of her fight.
Around Mother's Day, she was told the cancer had shown up again. She was told that she had 12 - 13 months left. She went downhill immediately. She was in a lot of pain as the cancer had gone into her bones. We were able to keep her at home in her own bed until the last 18 hours of her life. She was surrounded by lots of love.
Her daughter, Ariel, has come to live with me, my husband and 15 year old son. She is doing amazingly well. She did have to leave the wonderful community that she grew up in, and move 2 hours away. She will have to start a new and much bigger middle school but she is already making friends here in Kenosha.
Ariel was very much a part of her mother's caregiving. When we had important decisions to be made I always included Ariel's input. She would help her mom eat, brush her hair, and rub her arm. The four of us (my other sister too) would sit and talk around the bed, laugh and sing. It was hard to talk about important stuff, but we did. I tell Ariel how important her job was as part of our care team. That makes her proud. She is a very strong and brave girl!! She knows that we all did all that we could for her mom. They were able to talk a lot together and Chris prepared her for what was to come.
I sure miss my little sister.
Love and support to you all,
Donna

Thank you Donna, I had several PM's from Christine where she experssed her deep love for both you and your sister. Ariel sounds as though she has a very meaningful soul and a strength that all of us admire. Christine's love for Ariel was true as an arrow and her pride in her bubbled over sometimes in her writings. I know this will sound unusual for now, but if you can, please try and come back here from time to time to let us know how you're doing.

Donna, Thank you so much for news of Ariel! I was wondering how she was doing and where she would be living and I am so pleased to hear that she is with you and your family!
Christine was such a loving person and spoke about her sisters with love. Ariel will be fine, she is young and will make new friends as long as she is in a loving environment (which she is). Family is so important!
We all think we will live forever especially the young, but this subtype of cancer has no boundaries as to age or anything else. Christine did fight hard and long. We were all so sad to hear she had recurrence so soon, but it happens too often.
You and your family will be kept in my prayers and please do let us know how you and Ariel are making new memories. Ariel will remember what the three of you did for her mom and she will remember her mom with a lot of love knowing that you all did what you could. Thanks so much for keeping Christine home as long as you could. I think this is so important for families, it makes the loss easier to handle (if that is possible.) I lost my mom three years ago and it still feels like yesterday! The loss never leaves we just learn to live with it. Take care and know that we are all here for support for you and Ariel. We will answer what we can, should you have any questions about this triple negative breast cancer. Love and Hugs, another sister on the journey,
Helen in NS

Hi Donna,
Thank you so much for sharing with us. It really helps to be able to have some closure and you have done that by giving us some details about Christine's last days and also about Aerial.
Christine's beauty radiated through her posts as well as the picture she shared with us. She shared about her love for her family. I am glad you were able to be with her through her latter days. I understand what you mean about her being so young and strong and you couldn't comprehend how dreadful this disease can be sometimes. Much love to you and all your family.

Donna,
Thank you so much for updating us about your sister, Christine and her daughter, Ariel. They have both been in my thoughts and I'm so glad Ariel has a loving home and family to take care of her.
Christine was such a part of this community and we loved her posts and her picture with her big smile. That is how I'll always remember her. Her love for Ariel was so clear when she talked about her daughter. Bless you for taking her into your family. I know this must have comforted Christine in her last weeks.
I hate everything about this cancer and saddened it took another beautiful person.
When we lose a sister on this forum, we all mourn. Thank you for bringing us closure and letting us know about Christine's last days and that her daughter will be loved. Ariel sounds like such a strong young women. Her mother was and always will be proud of her.
Please keep in touch from time to time to let us know how your family is doing and how Ariel is adjusting and growing into a fine young woman that I know she'll be.

I was just stopping by to see how everyone here is doing, and I thought I'd give you an update.
Ariel (Chris's 12 year old daughter) is doing VERY well. She has made a ton of new friends in her new neighborhood and school. She is such a sweet and genuine person that I think people are attracted to her.
She has joined the year book committee at her middle school, and is in choir. When the drama season starts up, she wants to join that too. She calls my son, Michael, her brother. He is adopted and has always wanted a sibling. I think she's always wanted a sibling too. He's taken her to high school football games and different activities and helped her to fit in. Because they are now both "adopted" I think they both get some comfort from that, if that makes sense.
My sister Christine's birthday was September 14. We drove to Madison (2 hours away) and spent the day. Ariel visited her old friends that she grew up with and I spent time with my other sister. Then we picked up Ariel and went and visited the gravesite. We took flowers and a cupcake with a candle and sang to Chris. It was very emotional but I think it was good for Ariel.
Ariel has been such a blessing. I consider it such an honor to raise her for my sister. It has been very hard and time consuming taking apart her apartment, paying bills, court stuff, estate stuff and rearranging our house. A lot of changes in all of our lives.
I have to tell you too that my DH was diagnosed with a rare germ cell tumor cancer within a month after Chris passed away. He is in his 3rd round of chemo this week and the tumors are responding very well. His tumors are throughout his body rather than concentrated in one area. It has been very emotionally hard times here, but we are doing somewhat all right. Please keep us in your prayers.
Sometimes when I'm tired and I'm making supper or folding laundry, I feel like Chris is with me and smiling. That feeling and Ariel's hugs keep me going. I can never replace my sister in Ariel's life, but I can give her lots of love and security. I don't know if I'm expressing it right, but I feel very honored and trusted to have Ariel in our immediate family. She keeps Chris close to me.
Hugs and love to you all,
Donna Holmen Sapphire Skies sister

I just wanted to stop in and tell everyone hello. I am Chris's sister, Donna. She has been gone about a year and a half now. I am kind of shaky as I type this as it is heartbreaking to read some of her posts. We miss her so much.
Anyway, I wanted to let you all know that her daughter, Ariel is doing very well. Much better than I would have hoped. She is in 8th grade and has mostly A's and maybe one B in school. She sings in the school choir, and will be in a singing competition this weekend. I have her taking horse backing riding lessons and she just loves it.
We live near Lake Michigan and it has been a mild winter here. Every couple of weeks, she and I bundle up and go to the lake front and we poke around for sea glass. We have found some pretty pieces, and maybe this summer we'll take a jewelry class and make some necklaces. It is a nice bonding time. She likes to stop and have a Starbucks with me too. :-) I work in the childrens section of the public library. I've made her into quite a good reader. We both have just devoured the Hunger Game series and are eagerly waiting for the movie to come out.
Her father died when she was 5, and then after her mother died she had to move 2 hours away from her home to come and live with us. She has made many, many good friends, and I am thrilled about that.
She has a new bedroom she designed with purple walls, lime green and white accents. We bought a new white bedroom set to go with it. She has a nice, cozy setup.
We love having a girl in the family. Our son is 17, and was adopted as an infant. He never really liked being an only child. He is very active in high school, and when she goes next year to high school she will be very comfortable. She already knows a good amount of teens there and some of the teachers.
Immediately after my sister died, my hubby was diagnosed with a rare cancer, and was not expected to make it. He had 2 back to back bone marrow transplants at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. He went thru a lot, lost a lot of his hearing from the chemo and had a lot of neuropathy (sp?) in his hands and feet. Slowly his hands and feet are getting better but he may never regain all of his balance and feeling.
After being off work for many months, he went back to work in Nov. 2011, and was laid off after only 7 weeks back. They had to do major layoffs across the country so it had nothing to do with his cancer. He only worked for that company for a year and a half. Less actually because of his illness. There are a few jobs out there in his field -- certainly more than there was 2 years ago.
We have hope and he has been cancer free for a few months now.
Now I am off to read up about some of you.
Donna and Dana, are you both still active on the boards? Dana, how are you doing? I think of you and your mother often.
Warm hugs to all, Donna and Ariel

Donna (and Ariel)
I'm glad you "checked in" with us. It's wonderful that Ariel seems to be doing so well, and it sounds like you have more than enough love to go around your family.
I am so jealous that you live near Lake Michigan. I was born in Michigan, and spent my summers on the beach of my grandparents cottage on Lake Huron - very fond memories for me. I think it's probably why I am an avid beachcomber. Every summer we venture over to San Diego, and I spend the week waking up at 5 in the morning and scouring the beach for just about anything, although beach glass is my favorite along with sand dollars.
Wishing you happiness
Ann

Donna:
How broad Christine's smile must be as she watches over you, your family and Ariel. You are truly a wondrous woman, wife, mother and Aunt/mother, and Ariel was and is truly blessed to have you. I am so very, very sorry to hear about your husband's health, but am glad to hear he appears to be bouncing back. I pray for all good things for him and your family. Just when we think things can't possibly get any worse, we oftentimes find that yes, they can, and do. May God, and Christine continue to guard you all. I thank you so very much for coming on to the board to let us know. I think of Christine often, and still get the chills when I remember how fast things went downhill for her, and will always wonder, as I am sure we all do, why bad things have to happen to good people. I too know how very much you miss her, as I lost my daughter one year ago next month, and I too miss her with all my heart and soul. Life goes on after we lose our loved one, but it is vastly altered, as are we. God bless, and may love surround you all, always.

Donna,
Yes, I'm still active on the boards. I had a recurrence in 2010/2011, but so far NED. Your post gave me such a big smile and warmed my heart to hear about you and Ariel. It still saddens me how we lost Christine so quickly. She was full of life and fought so hard. Ariel was everything to her. It helps me to know that Ariel has adjusted and is doing well with your family. She must be so proud of her new bedroom. I can just imagine Chris looking down on both of you and smiling at your loving family and all you've done for her. I pray that your husband continues to be NED.
Please drop in from time to time and let us know how Ariel is doing. We mourn our members that have passed and worry about their families that are left behind. It's comforting when we hear stories like yours. You sound like an amazing women. Bless you.
Hugs,
Donna
