Hi, I don't come on here often but thought this would be the best place to come to answer my queries. I am coming up 6 years (whew) cancer free and still feel the urge to do more to prevent the beast returning. I was wondering if anyone has done a preventative ooph when they weren't brca+ve. Is there any research on whether it could potentially help us TN's? I dont qualify for genetic testing as have no family history, and where I live it is not available privately. I am 39,
thanks for any input on this... cheers

Congratulations on hitting the 6 year mark!! That's wonderful. As for prophylactic oopherectomy - you know that ovaries actually help us live longer, right? They protect cardiovascular health and brain and bone health too. Removing one's ovaries is not benign. Since you already removed both breasts and have made it to the six year mark, your risk from other causes of death is now probably greater than your risk from breast cancer. In your shoes I wouldn't do it to prevent breast cancer. If you are worried about ovarian cancer, that is a different story. You have no reason to think you are high risk, given that you don't have close female relatives with either breast or ovarian cancer, but if you are worried you could test your ca125 and do an ultrasound.
