Ok....I am sitting here driving myself CRAZY. I completed the end of treatment four weeks ago. I ended it with 32 radiation treatments. I have noticed the last few days that the upper area of my chest....where I had radiation had red bumps....they look like little bug bites. Skin is still pretty dry. At times they do itch. I am pretty fair skin and have always had somewhat sensitive skin. Of course you all know where my mind is going. IS THIS METS TO MY SKIN??????? I am trying to reassure myself that I am just now 4 weeks post radiation and it is probably just post radiation issue.

They do not hurt. I am just WORRIED....please give me some insight.......

Hi Diane. I can share my experience. I had small red bumps that were the worst on the chest just above the breast where the skin is thinner. Very itchy and the rad oncologist said they were a radiation rash. recommended to use a corticosteroid over the counter cream on it. That did not help much and aveeno helped. I also used a benadryl antihistamine cream. Not sure if that helped as I used aveeno right away as well but I think the aveeno gave me the noticeable relief. The only thing different from yours is my rash started just before the end of radiation and lasted a few weeks.

Hope this helps but whenever in doubt take it to your doc!

OMG.....thank you sister.....YES it looks RASHY.....of course my GOOGLING finger has been REAL busy today looking for some skin mets pics....But my case does seem like yours.

I had a double mastectomy (by choice) but if breast was still there that is the area that is irritated. I dont notice anything on my scarline.....just up high.......

Be careful using cortisone creams on skin that has been radiated. It thins the skin so use sparingly.

Oh kirby thanks.....I just came out of bathroom and found some cortisone cream. I put it on a bandage and put the bandage on the area.....better not do that.....huh???

I am removing it now.....lots of love

Go ahead and use the cortisone cream...just don't keep re-applying it often. Use sparingly. I have no idea how much would be too much. Best to go ahead and use than be driven crazy by itchy bumps.

Over the counter cortisone cream was the recommendation from the radiation oncologist at MDAnderson and he consults with a dermatologist. However use sparingly and short term. You will know if it is not working in one day. Aveeno did work better for me. But since yours appeared weeks after radiation finished it may be something different you are dealing with so need to get it checked. Aveeno will certainly not hurt it.

Ok....I called my Radiation Oncologist this morning. When the nurse called me she said well come on in and let us look at it. I just got back. He said it is HIGHLY unlikely that it has ANYTHING to do with the breast cancer. Looks like a yeasty type thing. He gave me Prescription Lotrisone cream. I am to apply it three times a day. They are gonna call me on Wed. afternoon or Thurs. morning to see how things are going. (If it is clearing up).....Of course I WANTED him to say 100% that it was nothing, but he said he would LOVE to say 100% but with cancer u just never FULLY no....He did say ALMOST CERTAIN NOT......So here we go....waiting to see if this works. I do go to my first Oncology appt. post treatment to do first tumor markers one week from today.....UUUGGHHH I sure wanted the 100% :( but will take HIGHLY UNLIKELY!!!!!!

Yes, Diane take the HIGHLY UNLIKELY it may be as good as it gets. I know we worry about everything but since radiation ?? uh, when was your rads finished? recently? if so yes, probably radiation irritation. Take care and hopefully this cream with do the trick. God Bless, Helen in NS

I finished four weeks ago. I have had SO much sweating. Due to hot flashes. I have not had any reconstruction yet. I ALWAYS have my prosthetics on. I just feel more normal with them on. I was just doing some research and BOOM found photos of what my bumps look like. It looks identical to heat rash. I wonder if that could be? Again sweat under those prosthetics on top of the OVERLY heated skin from radiation.....mmmm just a thought

Hi Diane,

I have one prosthesis and I wear it most of the time. I, like you, feel more normal and balanced if I wear it. I don't have the hot flashes any more, but when the weather is warm was hot and I sweat I had some heat rash because the skin cannot breathe under the prosthesis. I still (occasionally) have some heat rash under my remaining breast in hot weather. I didn't have radiation so that is not a part of my equation, but I'll bet if you are wearing those "hot foobs" a lot, that is causing some of your problem.

If it is so you can, try going without the prosthesis for a day or two and see how the rash looks. Hopefully with the cream and your skin being able to breathe better you will be OK soon.

I found out, in my case, that keeping the area of concern (clean, dry) and covered with a light covering of vaseline (during the day)it really keep it in check. I came upon this after much trial and error with creams and gold bond powder. It took a while to get it cleared up, but now I have practically no problems with it.

It has been almost 4 years since my diagnosis so this happened beginning in spring and summer of 2007. Good Luck..

Lillie.....thanks so much for your response. The cream really is helping the itching. I started it today. I am going FREE today....letting that chest area get some AIR. I am 36 so I was put in what is known as CHEMO pause....Boy the hot flashes have been tough. They are getting better. But i know I do some serious sweating....and those prosthetics are also hot ....especially over RADIATED skin....mmmmm sounds good to me. Hope this cream does work and I can put THIS worry away.....

ok....I started the cream yesterday. Radiation Oncologist says we want it to GO AWAY. I said um yea ME TOO......Well it seems to be going away.

I think maybe it is yeast or heat rash. I wear prosthetics ALL the time. I have spongy ones that slip in a camisole that I sleep in. YES I know WEIRDO HUH????

I just feel more normal with them on. I sweat HEAVILY.....Due to the CHEMO PAUSE. I am 36 and believe I have been put in menopause.

Well I am thinking.....SWEAT over radiated skin (which of course has heat in it) and prosthetics arent allowing my skin to breath. So yeast or heat rash....

Radiation Oncologist nurse (whom I LOVE) is gonna call late tomorrow or Thursday AM to see if this (rash) is clearing up......PLEASE KEEP ON WORKING CREAM!!!!!!
