Please, please, please have your D levels checked. There are a couple of different tests your oncs can do for you, either way you want your numbers to be at the high end of normal. Don't settle for "you're within the normal range" crap, find out what the normal range is and make sure you're at the high end. If you are at the low end you need to mega dose for probabley a few months (or sit in the sun daily without sunscreen) to get to the higher end. As you can see by this article, this is a serious problem, not just someone trying to sell you something.
You want to take atleast 1000 IU's daily of D3 if you're not deficient. As you can see by this article, one doctor takes 5000 IUs during the winter. I take 4000 IU's a day.
I believe the chemo therapy we receive makes us deficient as well and causes our body aches, osteporosis and chemo brain!

Hi Rhonda, Thank you so much for sharing. When I finished chemo therapy I had a bone scan and was diagnosed with the early stages of osteoporosis. I assumed the chemotherapy caused the diagnosis. No one mentioned taking high doses of vitamin D. They just said to take calcium. I live in the Northwest across the bridge where the Oregonian is printed and close to the Oregon Health and Sciences University where the researcher of the article is based. I had missed this article. You mention taking a specific kind of D. Does it matter if it is a liquid pill or a powdered tablet? Again, thank you for sharing! Sadie |

Hi Sadie,
I live in Gresham! I take capsules of D3 and slowed it down to 2000IUs daily until I got my blood work back which was today. I was still at 29 (the range for this test was between 18-75 being normal) my naturopath would consider this deficient, however the doctor did not. I have been taking higher dosages of D3 supplements religiously since before I started chemo in April and can't imagine where my levels would be without it. I will be going back to my 4000IU's a day throughout the winter and possibly visit a tanning booth a few times as well.
I really hope more gals will pick up on this because since I started taking the supplement my health has improved significantly in so many different areas.
My greatest concern is that everyone will just take the standard dosage, if they are deficient it could take years to build up unless they hit the sunshine hard (in our area it's not an option). They won't get this advice from their doctors even though studies have proven this to be true. It's the naturopaths that are really pushing this issue right now (and of course me nagging all of you because I know what it has done for me).
Maybe we should have tea sometime?
