| i am new to forum. I was dx with breast cancer in april, and learned I was triple negative this past week. I had a lumpectomy on 5/8/09. and met with an onc 6/2 to discuss options regarding chemo. I am 69 years old, and had been working as an er nurse prior to may 8th. my cancer was 1cm, grade 3, undifferenciated, invasive with negative nodes. I never had a braca test. I was offered 2nd generation regimen and third generation regimen. The regimens did not seem to offer me that much difference in outcome. I plan to start radiation rx within the next 2 weeks. I AM IN otherwise good health. I would appreciate any input anyone out there might have as this is all new to me. |

I am Nancy and my daughter Lori was dx wirth TNBC June 2007. Welcome to the site, but sorry we had to meet this way.
Are you saying that you will not be taking chemo, but are planning on doing radiation? We have tons of info here on the site, and many articles for you to read which are located in the TNBC News, Resources & Tips forum. Just click right on those words, and scroll down the page to forum topics. There are about 42 pages of info. Pam (trip2) posts new info there almost every day, and is always researching for everyone here on the site.
Lori teaches second grade but is also a nurse...not practicing for many years now, but once a nurse always a nurse
 May I ask where you live and will be receiving treatments? We live in Altoona, PA and Lori lives 12 miles form us.She had surgery at Magee Women's hospital in Pittsburgh, and treatments here in Altoona.
If there is a family history of cancer, and in particular breast cancer, you may want to have the BRCA testing, as the gene mutation can be passed from both parents. Lori tested negative for the BRCA gene mutation.

When I checked on Adjuvant!, it looked to me like you would have at most a 4% increase in ten-year survival with third-generation chemotherapy. Only you can decide whether that is enough difference to make chemotherapy worthwhile for you. Regardless, you can come here for support and encouragement. I wish you all the best.

I was diagnosed April 30th and had mastectomy 5/5 for a cancer very similar to yours. But i had two tumors 1cm and 2cm very near one another. I was told also triple negative invasive cancer with no nodes involved and clear margins. Grade 3 poorly differentiated and a stage 1. Because my entire breast was removed Im told i will not need Rads but was told that i must have chemo. Im starting 6/17. The outcomes were confusing to me when showed to me. Im 45 and also a RN im opting to take the chemo. I hope that all goes well with you. God Bless You!
