Hello,
I am a 4'10 1/2 " person. I achieved maximum height as well as began mensus at age 11. Is this also true of many of you triple negs??

To explore the relationship between age at maximum height and risk of breast cancer, researchers conducted a study among more than 27,000 women between the ages of 50 and 76. In addition to collecting information about age at maximum height, the study also collected information about age at first menstrual period, age at first birth, and other factors that may influence breast cancer risk.

During an average of four years of follow-up, 585 of the study participants were diagnosed with breast cancer.

  • Compared to women who reached their maximum height at age 17 or later, women who reached their maximum height by the age of 12 were 40% more likely to develop breast cancer.
  • Early age at maximum height appeared to be most strongly linked with estrogen receptor-negative cancers and cancers that had spread beyond the breast.
  • The link between age at maximum height and risk of breast cancer persisted even after accounting for factors such as age at first menstrual period and age at first birth.

This is interesting.  I don't fall into the category but I never seem to fit in right with any of this madness.  Guess it was the brca 1 or roll of the dice.

Thanks for sharing,

Interesting.  I would say I was a late bloomer.  Not sure when I stopped growing, but thought it was tied to when you started your period.  I was 14, almost 15.  I am short though! wonder if that has anything to do with it!  I'm still looking for reasons since i'm brca negative also.

This is interesting.  I think I may not fit in (what else is new?).  I was 11 when I had my first period and was about 5'2".  I reached my full height at around 14 -- 5'4 1/2".  Now, I understand that is AVERAGE height for a female of my age and time.  Not according to my 6'2" husband who always calls me short -- :-P

Cheers,
Caryn

I have always been tall and thin, and was a late bloomer. I remember laying in bed with aching legs from growing pains. I am 5'10" and have been since age 13.My period began at age 14.

We seem to be all over the map!  I didn't get my period until I was almost 14, and reached my maximum height of 5'8'' at around 17 or so.   My feet kept growing for years (size 10 boats).
love,
Denise

My sister (who has TNBC) is 5'8" and had her first period at 15, which is about the time (maybe a little before) she reached her max height.  She had her first child at age 31.

Thanks for the info--I like the thought that someone is looking at every angle

Well It's hard to remember exactly ...but I too was a late bloomer..thin...thin...thin...I think it was called skinny back then...Menses was at 13...I'm 5ft 5 1/2"...I think I attained that hieight at about the same time..

Had my son when I was 18 yrs. old...and yeah I breast fed him...

So like so many of you...I just don't seem to fit the molds that some of these studies show...

Caryn I'm with you...It's a tall world...My husband is 6'2"...He says I tricked him..cause when he met me I always wore heels...

I'd like to invent shoes with soles that have air filled cushions so you could press a button. &..the soles  would expand...and presto chango...I too.... could reach the top shelf of my cupboards...(You saw it here 1st...I'll apply for a patent tommorrow)

The world seems especially tall now that I can't use my arms to reach anything.and have this ."never ending" bi-lateral frozen shoulder side effect from treatment.." hmmmmm.........

The problem with studies is how they can be used to prove or create a causal relationship about anything...IE...There are more brown eyed folks on the planet...than blue..So of course there would be more brown eyed gals with breast cancer than blue...However...having brown eyes does not predispose you to having cancer...

I worked in the IT dept of a nursing home...about 10 years ago..the government began collecting stats from every resident...The nurses were having trouble with filling out the form...It wanted height in inches... but nurses were putting height in feet and inches...There's a big difference between 5"1" and 51 inches...It took about a year to get nurses to fill this field out correctly..and every time a new nurse started...it was a training issue....Someday I expect to see a study from those stats..that says...that amazingly...nursing home residents appear to grow at least a foot...in the first year...that they live in a nursing home....LOL
