I just wanted to write a note of thanks to each and everyone on this site. One year ago I was overwhelmed and on a roller coaster ride. I don't post much, but I read all the posts each and everyday. A year ago I thought maybe I wouldn't even be around today, but reading and understanding my feelings through your posts made me understand I am not alone and there is hope. I had my first mammogram on Friday since diagnosis and all is looking good, but I know there is a long road ahead.
Again, I just want to thank all for your encouragement, answers and information that has kept me positive. Dear Eileen,
Thank you for writing. I remember vividly the first year anniversary was a rollercoaster of emotion for me...the overwhelming fear I felt when I was first diagnosed flooded me....and then I said "I made it...I can do this" and now I am coming up on my second year anniversary May 15 since diagnosis in 2007 and I am hoping to turn the years into decades.

Great milestone, Eileen. Feels good, doesn't it?
I will have mine coming up in August this year since I decided to count from the last day of my treatment, which was my last radiation, on August 27, 2008. That date is now also my birthday date, at least as far as celebrating is concerned. ------------- August 2007, Stage III, 5+ cm, Grade 4F, 4 FAC with booster after 4 days, 12 weekly Taxol, radical mastectomy, 36 radiation treatments. Now, that is an interesting perspective - the last day of treatment. I decided to pick the day I heard those words...that was the day my life changed forever. That might be an interesting topic.
Just another ponderable as we travel in our treatment vehicles that do not have any shock absorbers, on the bumpy, pot-hole filled roads we call our new lives.

Eileen, Congrats on that milestone...  I know I didn't even thing about mine because I was still getting chemo!!! I did however think this past week on being on year since my surgery. I think you have hit on an interesting point.
When I asked my med. onc. about what date does the anniversary fall on...he said the last date of treatment, which for me would be in October.
But, I must say that reaching and celebrating all of my one year anniversaries over the past few weeks has really touched me and made me think back to one year ago.
I would be curious to know which date the physcians use.

I think all our firsts are important in their own ways. My oncologist sez last date of treatment also, but 1st from diagnosis, surgery - when cancer was removed, when chemo ended, when radiation ended are all important dates for me and means I was one step further along. I have recently passed a few year marker's and yes the emotion's do flood back as if it was just yesterday.
Dec. 14, 2008 marked a year from when I found my lump, Dec. 31 was my core needle biopsy, Jan 2,2009 marked my diagnosis, Jan 14, surgery, yesterday Feb. marked a year from my first chemo and today marked a year ago I was hospitalized for four days from the first treatment. It will be a year July 17th when I finished my chemo treatment's and radiation finished Sept. 22. I agree the first dates seem to really catch my attention. I am waiting for the result's of my first mammogram on the treated breast. I will then have a bone scan on March 16 along with a ultrasound of my liver, and a x-ray of my lung's. I will get those result's when I see my onc. on March 23. It looks like our dates are so similar. My chemo started 4/10/ and the last one was 7/17. I ended radiation 9/26. I had my first mammo since this whole thing started friday, was a little nervous but all went well. Same radiologist who read my mammo last year, did my ultrasound, core biopsy, needle localization, injected for sentinal node. He was very upfront, honest, even though my husband thought my questions shouldn't be asked, the radiologist said no she has a right to ask anything she has a question to and was straight forward and right on the money. I asked to have my mammo done when he was going to be there and read it immediately and that is exactly what was done. Very reassuring. Hooray for you Eileen! And for the rest of you for remembering every date. 2007 (the year of my treatment) is just one big chemo-induced fog to me... Ladies - I have to ask a question - I am new to the forum although have been reading posts for over 2 years. Probably fear that has kept me from reaching out to others who have this type of cancer, but I am interested in what your surgeon and oncologists tell you about your odds. I go to a very large cancer hospital and both tell me that once you reach your 2 and 3 year that triple negatives have about the same odds of survival as all other types of breast cancer. Yes, that is exactly what my oncologist has told me---that 2 yr anniversary is a big deal & that after 3 years, the odds drop dramatically.
My treatment will be ending Apr 1. I so look forward to the next few years passing uneventfully, but I know they are going to be filled w/ worry.

Congratulations! One year out and looking good. I hope you plan on celebrating this milestone! I am already starting to plan a celebration for my one year since diagnosis. I am still receiving chemo now but in October ( my one year since diagnosis) I am making plans to go to Hawaii. Something about swimming in the warm salt water , washing away the worries and fears of this last year, seems appropriate. Plus it is one of my favorite places in the whole world. But, no matter what you do ... light a candle, have a nice dinner, party with friends, take a bubble bath.... know we are all happy and sharing your joy on this day.

I haven't heard this before. Is there any supporting papers or research articles on this? Is this common knowledge because I have not heard this from my oncologist. I had read in some articles that after 7 years your rates of recurrence drop dramatically and it is rare to see a recurrence after 10 years. Not sure how to make this a new topic.
