I've heard alot of different things about triple negatives. It sounds like their may be a trend toward neo-adjuvant therapy. Wondering alot about chemical exposure, and vitamin D deficiencies. Race seems to be a factor too, I'm freckled white.

5). Do you or did you dye your hair? What color? never did before, but have after it grew back a yucky color

7). Other Chemical exposure note worthy? worked with microfilm and developing chemicals for 20 years about 10 years prior to dx
8). Did you have chemo prior to surgery? If yes, was it due to tumor size? No, didnt know enough to ask, tumor was 4.5 cm

10). Do you get much sun? If yes, do you use sun screen? Not now, did when I was young. I am also fair skinned and freckled

1) 42 at dx; 43 at recurr & mets; 44 at 2nd mets ... 2) caucasian 3) Initial dx - invasive on left breast, DCIS on right. 2nd dx - recurr of invasive, mets to liver & unrelated kidney cancer; 3rd dx - lung mets 4) Never overweight until chemo! Athletic w/curves. 5) Never dyed or colored my hair ... but had perms all thru my teens and 20s; 6) Never wore acrylic nails; 7) Chem Exposure: Foods, house where I grew up was built on former agricultural land (when my mom was dx'd with bc in her 40s, there were many other women in the n'hood who were also dx'd with bc in their 40s ... and this was in 1987!) PCB's along the backyard fence. Tetracycline for acne. 8) Bi-lat lump's & SNB on initial dx, followed by rad'tn. No chemo until recurr & mets. 9) Splenda - never 10) Sun - yes, too much thru my early 30s ... Nat'l blonde, but used to tan ... Used sunscreen from later teens on ... 11) California 12) Always wear an underwire bra! 13) Both! Invasive on left; DCIS on right. What about BRCA test? BRCA1. I would like to add something to the last post (mine). Chemo brain had set in and I couldn't remember.....
I have been restoring old furniture and fixing up houses for a number of years. I'm sure I have breathed in paint fumes, as well as a lot of other chemicals. Hi Gals, The reason I asked about Splenda is because I was using it quite a bit before my dx in March. I was having high blood pressure for the first time in my life and my left kidney hurt like hell. I was at a christmas party when the subject came up and I was told how poisonious it was. There's a web site out there that talks about the chemical make up which is close to chlorine. I quit and my blood pressure and kidney went back to normal within 3 days. The things we do to be thin!
I asked about underwire bras because people talk about cancer being caused by irritation, radiation, or chemical exposure. My cancer was on the left side right where the wire ended. My left boob was always a little bigger than the right so I went with the smaller size and it irritated it quite a bit.
I also wore acrylics for years. I joked that they were prosthetics as I have been a nail biter for years. I did quit however -yet another bennefit to having breast cancer! lol
The sun question is more about just before your diagnosis to see if there is a trend towards a vitamin d deficiency. They know cancer patients are deficient but there not sure is it's caused by the cancer or if it causes cancer. Thanks for the feed back

THE SPRAYING WENT ON FOR NEARLY 6 MONTHS. VERY STRONG CHEMICALS. PLUS, I'D CARRY A HANDHELD RAID CAN FOR ROACHES AND SPRAY ON SITE AS WELL. yes overweight...by 70 pounds
yes colored my hair ashe Blondie to Blondie
no other chemos that I"m aware of but did live under power lines as a child
yes on the acrlics but only past year
Chemo prior to surgery: Yes, but when they gave me 4 weeks off of chemo to prepare the cancer came back after 2 weeks with a vengeance, so they moved up my surgery so it wouldn't metas. So I thought why did I go through 6 treatments and risk injury to other organs when i didn't have to.
Tumor ended up about the same size as pre chemo...really came back strong.
Sun: got bad sunburns as a child but since teenage years wear sunscreen
Grew up in Michigan reside in Cincinnati now.
Wore underwire bras seems like forever....always had large breasts.
Right breast was positive with 5- 7 nodes. BRACA 1 pos.

Hey there Coreen, didn't "get my nap out" so overslept - late to work - good way to start a Monday, huh ?
Got my fingers crossed for this week. Scheduled to have a lump removed Wednesday -- hoping it's scar tissue, on an incision, on a rib, on the cancer side. That fear never goes away, does it?

No that fear never seems to go away. Sometimes we can tuck it back in the closet for awhile but we know it's in there.

7). Other Chemical exposure note worthy? Having been born and raised in a steel mill town, I was exposed to tons of toxins in the air and I am pretty sure in the water. I can remember swimming in Lake Michigan with dead fish floating around from all the chemical waste that was dumped.

4). Are you over weight? If yes, how much? No but chemo caused me to gain weight - alot of water retention. legs still swell very easily.

I remember sitting in the lawn chair and having to run inside because helicopters were sraying the fields. We were never given notice as to when spraying would be done .
