Hi Everyone,

I am five years out from TNBC.  Feeling great with the exception of what I believe to be a herniated disc due to exercise.  When I went to my orthopedist, he ordered an MRI and when I mentioned my history of TNBC BC he added with contrast to look for bone cancer.  I was shocked as I just received my five year all clear in August from my oncologist.  I was stage 1a TNBC early dx.

Can anyone offer some advice (maybe Steve or Donna) on the likely hood or a good study I can review on early stage TNBC  going to bone mets.  I would appreciate it.  They aren't able to get me in for the MRI for 3 weeks and as we all know, that is a long time to worry.

I would appreciate any responses.  Thanks and I hope everyone is staying safe and positive.  ~ Penny

Hi Penny,

I know we worry until we get those test results.  It's always good when a doctor is proactive and orders a test even though it creates scanxiety for us!  I had bone pain after treatment ended.  It was a few years out and my hip was hurting.  They ordered a scan just to rule it out (all clear) and sure enough about 2 weeks later the pain went away.

I found a study and you have to scroll down about a 1/3 of the way into the publication to get to the paragraph before Table 3 where it discusses bone mets.  It concludes:  "As a result, higher clinical stage T and stage N were independent risk factors for bone metastasis of primary TNBC."

Thanks Donna.  I knew you would have a study.  So, with early stage TNBC the probability is very low.  Is that what I am reading?  I am 1a grade 2

Thanks Penny

Penny, I know covid times don't help in trying to hurry an appt. I am with Kaiser Insurance. Quite a number of years ago I received a recall on a mammogram. I was unable to get an appt for 3 weeks. When I finally gathered my wits, I called the dept directly and spoke to a supervisor. I was told if I had time to sit around and wait I could come in the next day, they would work me in. It ended up taking an hour. People booking appts don't always understand the urgency and fear nor do they always have an understanding of how the techs work. I'll hope being a bit aggressive may help get you in sooner.

Penny,

Yes, from reading the study the probability is very low.
