Dear beloved TNBC family,

I and others have written over the years regarding the fact that researchers have shown there are different subtypes of TNBC with different characteristics and outcomes.

I am appealing to the researchers/scientists working in this area to continue their work and for breast cancer research efforts to focus their efforts on this essential area so that our community can craft better treatment by identifying the subtypes and most importantly finding different treatment protocols for those subtypes.

When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in the early 1960's all breast cancer was treated the same, even though we now know there are different types. Now after many decades of often treating TNBC as one disease, with poor results at times, we know there are different subtypes that are more deleterious than others and hopefully, in the years, to come, women will be, as a testing standard, tested for not just ER/PR/HER2Neu
but the subtypes as indicated in the large study above and elsewhere.

More work needs to be done and hopefully, in time, lives will be lengthened and even saved. I am praying that the cancer centers around the country working on this problem such as (not in any particular order) MD Anderson Cancer Center, UNC, Duke, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Cleveland Clinic and others will continue their important work and that advocates like my friend Marquita Bass continue to raise awareness. I will continue to do my part, as well.

with my love to all here,

Steve
