Hello, dear friends,
I have just finished 25 rounds of rads and after about 2 weeks developed pain in the opposite side of the lungs being irradiated. Pain was small, but certain and slowly progressed to pressure, like having a boulder on my lungs, itching and pain, wakening at night with pain, now dry cough, comming from deep.

I am told it is probably related to radiation and it is felt on the opposite side by mistake (or my brain is processing this incorrectly). Strange, because the pain and cough seems to be real.

What type of complication is this? Has anybody had this? What kind of treatment I would need? Is this some kind of haemmeorraging?

Tx for any suggestions.

Hi Galina,

Have you called your doctor?  This sounds like a good reason to call even if it is after hours.  I had a pulmonary embolism in October after having surgery.  I has this funny sound when I would breath out and I felt like I was having to push the air into my lungs.  It was pretty mild and I might not have mentioned to my doctor except I had a follow up appointment after the surgery.  I also had a dry cough.

I didn't want to say anything because it sounds scary, but in my situation it was an emergency.  I was sent to have a PET scan and then immediately wheeled into the hospital.

I just think a call to your doctor is warranted.  It maybe nothing, but it is worth a check.

Warmly,
Sadie
