our local center, the CR Wood Cancer Center, has purchased TWO of the newest state of the art rad machines! shortly after diagnosis i started volunteering for the hospital foundation to raise 2 million dollars - half the cost of one machine - with the goal of buying one for the cancer center.
these new machines can reduce the number of treatments needed down to about 7, where i had 33. also, for some cancers the treatments that last 30 minutes will only take 2 minutes. side effects will be reduced too, because they can manipulate the beam so much better. amazing!! they held the press conference a few weeks ago to show the new machine and because the head of radiology negotiated so hard and so well, we are getting a second one by the end of the year! i still volunteer at many of the cancer center's fundraisers but this one obviously hit close to home for me - i wanted that machine that toasted me to go!! and it is!
let's see if the links work....
