You won't believe this but there is actually a little know but greatly appreciated benefit to chemo. We just got back from a week on Plum Island off the coast of Newbury, MA. Along with being a our own little backyard island paradise it's also famous for the voracious greenheads. "Greenheads don't bite - they suck!" says many a t-shirt you'll see there! Well, while my family was swatting, slapping and jumping aroound I had not one greenhead even land on me! It was like I had a flashing sign over me that said "Poison"! Ha-ha-who-new that little tid-bit?!!! Nana Mimi ------------- 65 yrs old. Dx 5/13. IDCIS. TNBC. Lumpectomy 1.1cm clean margins. SNB 0/3. Stage 1. Grade 2. 4/4 rnds TC. Rad X 33. Done! |

Nana Mimi, You now have your own internal bug repellent! Funny how we try to seek the good in treatment. For me it was not having to shave my legs! Very funny! I noticed this also when my family and I were playing a euchre tournament in the back yard one night. I would have a mosquito land on me but would never stick me. Everyone had to put on the stinky bug spray to keep the bugs at bay, I enjoyed not having to slap the buggers away. :) Donna I agree the not having to shave was numero uno on my list of best side effects. It is so nice that the insects don't like the chemo either.
I was thinking about the lingering side effects of chemo that I've had for seven years now. It would be nice if one of those side effects could have been "repelling mosquitoes". The mosquitoes are so bad because we have had so much rain. When I drive under my carport it feels as though they are swarming around my car daring me to open the door. I usually make a mad dash for the door swinging my arms in self defense. Oh Well.... December is just around the corner.
