Subject: FAQ on Posting/etc on the forums

The aim of this thread is to have "How to use the forums" information in one place. There is a lot of information on the "FAQ" Section. This will be a thread to which additional forum related info can be added to. This would be a place where one could ask questions about the "use of the forum". Those who do not know about this thread or choose otherwise can always post how to use the forums questions elsewhere.
An attempt will be made to add any additional following posted information to this initial post. Goal: Have forum use information in one place for reference.
HOW TO USE THE FORUMS. FORUM INFORMATION.
FAQ Some of the things included in FAQ are: How do I post a message in the forum? How do I delete posts? How do I edit posts? How do I add a signature to my post? Private Messaging (sometimes referred to as: PM) Click on following link for information on above and other FAQ AND also see info below: http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/forum_FAQ.html" rel="nofollow - http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/forum_FAQ.html

ADD AVATAR TO ONE'S PROFILE Prior information deleted pending clarification.
CONTACTING A FORUM ADMINISTRATOR If one needs to contact a forum administrator about a forum matter, send a PM or email. Send a PM: PM to: Miriam Send an email: EMail to: info@tnbcfoundation.org
CREATE A NEW TOPIC (thread) Login to Forums. From the Home Page: Click on the Forum where the new topic/thread would seem to fit best: Ex: TNBC Talk, Let's Talk about Chemotherapy etc. At the top: Click on "New Topic + " Type the name of new topic/thread you are wish to make in the Subject Box. Type your initial post in the message Box Area Click on " Post New Topic" and a new Topic/thread will show on the forum.
DELETE A POST Unless you are a Forum Moderator or an Administrator you can only delete your own posts and only if the forum has been setup with the relevant rights for you to be able to delete your post. If someone has replied to your post then you will no-longer be able to delete it. Note: If someone has already posted below your post and one wants to "delete" one's entire post, one can "edit" post and leave no post. This will show one accessed that thread but one's prior post will not show. To delete a post: Log in to forum Go to post one wishes to edit. Click on: Post options. Go to post one wishes to edit. 1st step: Click on: Post options. 2nd Step: Click on: Edit Post 3rd Step: Edit post 4th Step: Click on: Update Post When you edit your posts depending on the forum setup, it will display the username, time, and date of when the post was edited at the bottom of the post.
HYPERLINK (Adding a "live" link in a post) Using the "insert hyperlnk" icon. The "insert hyperlink" button on the forum has the http:// embedded in it (meaning you can't remove it at the beginning.) Copy a link for an article. Go to icons at top of the message box and click on the insert hyperlink icon (a globe). Paste in in the link. Click OK You will be asked to enter the link again. Paste link again. Click OK. Now because it would have 2 http:// inserted into the link, go the beginning of the link address just copied and remove the one of the http:// The link will show "live" on the preview and post on the forum but not on what you just wrote on the message box. To make a link without the use of the "insert hyperlink" icon is: In the message section, put [ URL ] IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT LEAVE A SPACE AFTER OR BEFORE THE FRONT AND END BRACKETS. If a space was not left in these directions, it would not show correctly. Then (from another screen), copy the link (http:// address) Go back to the message box and paste the link. Type in [ /URL ] IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT LEAVE A SPACE AFTER OR BEFORE THE FRONT AND END BRACKETS. If a space was not left in these directions, it would not show correctly. The link will show "live" on the preview and post on the forum but not on what you just wrote on the message box. If one is initially having a problem making a live link, just put in the http:// address and others can copy and paste the http:// address in their browser.
NO RESPONSE TO A POST. Some days there are many new posts and all members may not read all the new posts. Some times a member may read a new post and plan to go back and post a reply............. but then after reading other new posts simply forgets (or ? chemobrain) to go back and post. Some times there are posts about questions/matters that members do not have answers to and/nor any information on the matter.........rare but can happen. Possible Solution : Try posting again saying something like......am still trying to find information on........or maybe post and re-word your question a little differently ........ and hopefully some one who has information you are looking for will see the second post and respond.

Before posting a new topic, please check to see if there is already a topic open on the subject. Ex: If related to Vit D3, one might consider posting on topic "Vit D3' on the TNBC Talk forum. Question related to abbreviations on the forums, one might consider posting on topic "Abbreviations on forums" on the Welcome New Members forum. Use the " Search" function to find exisitng topics on the forums to post on. See above SEARCHING ON THE FORUMS - One may start a new topic on a forum. See above CREATE A NEW TOPIC. - If one is a new member, one may consider introducing oneself on: http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/welcome-from-tnbc-foundation_topic8.html?FID=3&PR=3" rel="nofollow - http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/welcome-from-tnbc-foundation_topic8.html?FID=3&PR=3 Among other new member options: - One may also consider starting a new topic on the WELCOME NEW MEMBERS forum. (When initially diagnosed, one may have many questions and some like to introduce themselves on a new topic....and then use that thread to ask additional questions as they arise. See CREATE A NEW TOPIC) - One may have questionsi/no on a new topic and could consider creating a new topic posting on the forum (New Members, Talk about Chemotherapy etc) where topic seems to fit in best. - There may be a few topics in the Announcements section of a forum (as well as the TNBC News, Resources & TIps) where only Administrators can post.
Additional posts with questions about the USE of the forums are welcome. Additional posts with other USE of the forums information that would be helpful for other members are encouraged.
With caring and positive thoughts, Grateful for today..............Judy
