LBBC (Living Beyond Breast Cancer) Monthly Ask the Expert Program.

January 2013 Ask the Expert: Making Treatment Decisions for the Newly Diagnosed
During the month of January, get your questions answered about making treatment decisions when you are newly diagnosed.

If you have questions about how diagnostic tests and pathology tests help your doctor build a plan for your treatment, how to decide which treatments are best for you, how to talk openly with your providers about your diagnosis, how to educate yourself and your caregivers on available treatments, how treatments work or what side effects are associated with them, ask our expert, Adam Brufsky, MD, PhD, your question.

LBBC will answer as many questions as possible, but we cannot answer all questions submitted. We will post answers throughout January. Submit your questions now, and check back for updates.
Answers to questions will be posted at:
http://www.lbbc.org/Learning-From-Others/Ask-the-Expert/2013-01-Making-Treatment-Decisions - http://www.lbbc.org/Learning-From-Others/Ask-the-Expert/2013-01-Making-Treatment-Decisions

Suggest one includes the term TNBC when asking questions.
Submit questions at:
http://www.kintera.org/site/c.ajIRK7NHLeJ4E/b.8508707/k.595/201301_Ask_the_Expert/apps/fc/form.asp - http://www.kintera.org/site/c.ajIRK7NHLeJ4E/b.8508707/k.595/201301_Ask_the_Expert/apps/fc/form.asp

A thought for members "not newly diagnosed":
Maybe consider submitting general questions that would help some newly diagnosed who are still
learning what specific questions to ask about TNBC.
Had this thought as Dr. Brufsky has published on TNBC.

(Dr. Brufsky has TNBC articles listed on pubmed.
      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=Brufsky%20A%5Bauth%5D%20triple%20negative%20breast%20cancer - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=Brufsky%20A%5Bauth%5D%20triple%20negative%20breast%20cancer
Dr. Brufsky has other articles on pubmed:
      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=Brufsky%20A%5Bauth%5D - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=Brufsky%20A%5Bauth%5D         )

And just to state the obvious, the questions will have general answers.
       - To be discussed with your oncologist for your particular situation.
       - This ask the expert program was posted for ideas of what questions other newly
diagnosed are asking with some general info answers.
(Many times in past the Ask the Expert series, I have found that the questions and answers
were already on the TNBC forums.   Since sometimes, the same thing said in a little
different way can be helpful...... decided to post this.)

With caring and positive thoughts,

There's still time to ask questions......until the end of January.     (See above post)

Remember, these are general questions and general answers.

Remember the topic is newly diagnosed breast cancer and not specifically TNBC.

One needs to discuss one's situation with one's physician.

There was a questions on Vitamin D.
In addition to answer given, check thread forum thread on Vitamin D3 for more detailed info.
              See especially page 26.

Interesting, how one learns from the forums on this website. If one has TNBC always ask your
oncologist about the pros and cons of both neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy.   One of the
answers on a TNBC question on the LBBC Ask The Expert Program mentions only adjuvant.......
but another of the experts' answers did mention both options.   So, continue to read the forums
and other reputable resources and discuss issues with one's physician.
(Adjuvant chemo:        Chemo after surgery.
Neoadjuvant chemo:   Chemo before surgery.)
