Hello my name is Wendy and I am 42. I was diagnosed on 11/14/12 with a 6mm tumor of the right breast. I've had a sentinel node biopsy which was negative haven taken 2 nodes!! thank you Jesus. I have also had ultrasounds and MRI checking on the healthy breast. My mastectomy is set for 1/21/13 here in Cincinnati at the UC Hospital. Just want to be on this site to get updates on TNBC. This subtype has taken me for a loop emotionally but I am getting stronger each day. I am a Christian and my faith is what I am standing on. Waiting on a phone call today to see when I will get port in for chemo, since surgery is in about a week.

Hello Wendy,
I am glad you found this site. It is a good place to get updates and information about TNBC. Also, we have a Spiritual Support thread that lots of us visit and share our faith, fears, encouragement, and on and on.
Good luck with your port placement and the beginning of chemo. Please visit often and let us know how you are progressing.
God Bless,
Lillie

I am new here also...first post today. I also am 42. My doctor put me on chemo first which I just finished last week. My surgery is 2/20. TNBC threw me for quite a loop too and still does. My MRI in September showed no lymph node involvement so I too, felt blessed at that news. I just am so ready to get the surgery and have the actual lymph nodes tested.....AND have them clear so that I can feel able to breathe for a bit. To say this is life changing doesn't touch it. I wish you nothing but the best with your surgery and especially the recovery. I am sure that you will find some incredible support on this website. I already have and am learning so much from posts and articles. TNBC is a terrible diagnosis, but this site has made me finally feel proud to be a part of such a club. Prayers!

Wendy/Marci: were you given an option of lumpectomy + radiation instead of mastectomy? My doctors told me lumpectomy + radiation has the same result as mastectomy. My recovery from lumpectomy was just a few days, I was back to work in a week. Much easier surgery...

SKC, My mastectomy was a choice. I was told that I was a good candidate for lumpectomy and radiation, but that there is a small percent advantage to the double. I will take any percentage even if it is small. I feel that they have betrayed me and I want to so everything possible to get rid of any chance of spread...at least in the breast. In the end, it might be overkill, but I want to do everything possible to reduce my chance of recurrence. I am now of the belief that it might not make a difference, but for me, the mental is most important as I go forward through this. :)

Hi Marci and Wendy,
Welcome! Marci, you will see that some of us have done chemo first, some surgery. Some opt for the lumpectomy, and some for the BMX and some start with a lumpectomy and go back for the BMX. You at right, you need to make the choice that is the best one for YOU, that gives you the peace of mind to sleep at night, and that makes you feel like you did what you needed to do.
People who have had the BMX have posted a ton of very helpful suggestions, so make sure you read through some of those posts.
Best of luck to you.
Deb

Hello,
I have been offered Cytoxan and Taxotere Combo vs the ACT. Any direction on the 1st combo being the new thing for TNBC? I know the "A" causes heart issue potentially.

Hi Wendy,
Sorry you have had to join the TNBC club, but glad you are here and found this great site for support! I had TN back in 2007 and chose lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Afterwards, I did dose dense AC followed by Taxol, then radiation. I had a complete response (NED) after all treatments ~ for four years. I have not had any heart issues. Your Onc should have some reliable stats regarding AC vs. CT since these are "off the shelf" drugs that have been around for a long time. Keep researching until you are able to choose what you are comfortable with. Also - make sure you get a Power Port. This will help with future with scans so that they don't have to start an IV every time.
Prayers for you that the surgery goes well and you recover quickly. God is watching over you and will guide and direct those who care for you as well. Lean on Him!
Blessings,
Traci

Hi Wendy,
I believe you said you are Stage I? Some, at that early stage, do go with the cytoxin/taxatere combo. Usually followed by radiation.
I have a sister-in-law who was diagnosed with Stage IIIc in Dec. 2012. She had a mastectomy, cytoxan/taxatere combo and radiation. She also had 12 lymph nodes that were cancerous. Her cancer has already spread to her bones. It may have happened anyway, but that was very 'chemo light' for that stage cancer.
You really do have to weigh your options and do what feels right for you and your medical team.
I personally went with a more aggressive chemo regimen at Stage IIb. That was 6 years ago. I'm on the team that says, do all you can do the first time to combat this aggressive TN cancer.
God Bless,
Lillie

Hey Wendy,
There's another similar discussion under "Let's Talk Chemotherapy." You might want to read there as well.

Thank you everyone. With all I have read and even my Medical Oncologist referred to ACT as the "big guns". But the T and C as effective. I know we get one chance to hit this hard. Also, I don't qualify but my doctor is looking into the Neuvax Vaccine by the Army. It is in Phase III now. God Bless!
