Topic: Pregnant after TNBC Posted: Sep 08 2013 at 5:16pm |
Okay, So I'm trying to optimistic about this. Bringing life into the world should be cause for celebration. However after having a very aggressive strand of TNBC, totally negative of any all mutations, I'm scared to death. I finished rads on 09/12 and before that the last chemo was about 03/12. I'm 35 years old half African American and half German/FrenchMy concern is that this strange cancer will come back or put me at greater risk for reoccurrence? Is there anyone that has had TNBC, delivered a child and is still cancer free? Were all so young and bearing children happens at our ages. Does anyone have any words of advice other then congratulations on this subject?? Thanks in advance for the congratulations

Dear Miss D,
Congratulations!!!!!!
I am hoping things go well for you.
I would definitely be positive and at the same time talk to your oncologist about accelerating your surveillance program.
warmly,
Steve

Thanks for the kind words. I just was in hopes of finding someone that has been through what I'm going through and it's kind of sad when I find none. Not to mention, will the child have birth defects??

Thank you for that. I am so nervous but I want so bad to move on with my life and be happy. I suppose as long as I seek out others that have been through it or have posative stories I should be hopeful. Thanks again. God Bless.

Dear MissD,
there is absolutely no reason for your child to have birth defects, in my opinion.
I know several women who have had children before and after having TNBC and they are NED. One of the difficulties with our site is that quite often, understandably, when women are NED (No Evidence of Disease) they no longer post on the board so we normally hear from women with problems while the ones who don't have any problems just want to get on with their lives and not post any longer.
enjoy your baby, think positive and try to find the beauty in each day...and at the same time please keep up with your surveillance.
warmly,
Steve

Congrats!!!!
I am sending you lots of good hope and prayers for you and your family.
What a beautiful thing!
I am still worried if my period is going to start. I am 40 and there is a 50/50 chance that it might put me into menopause or early.
Please keep us updated on how you and your little one are doing!!

Dear Ms.D,
I used to be more active here but due to the fact that I now have two little kids and work full time I just pop in once in a while without posting much. From my stats you'll see that I was diagnosed almost five years ago at 32. My oldest son was 6 months old. I underwent a bilat mastectomy, chemo and radiation.
I struggled a lot with the decision of having another child after treatment and finally decided on taking a leap of faith and got pregnant right away. My youngest son in now 10 months old and is growing healthy and happy. So far I'm fine too. I was treated as a high risk pregnancy because I was borderline age-wise (35+) and because of my cancer history. This meant I got to see my doctor more often and was closely monitored all along. I can't deny it was scary at times, particularly because while pregnant you can't have some tests done for BC. Also because as much as they take out in the mastectomy some mammary tissue is left behind and it reacts to the pregnancy hormones so I used to feel pressure and soreness in my chest which made me freak out. Thankfully both my OBGYN and my Oncologist were awesome and listened to me whenever I needed them.
Please feel free to PM me if you want to talk further. I know a few girls with stories similar to yours that I could also put you in touch with.
All the best,
Natalia
