Hi!
I am almost one year from diagnosis (Sept '14). I was DX at age 41 with TNBC, Grade 3, Stage 1, 0/7 nodes involved, BRCA 1&2 neg.
Treatment = Excisional biopsy (wish I knew better) and then a lumpectomy to achieve clear margins; 4 rounds of AC chemotherapy every 2 weeks and 4 rounds of taxol chemotherapy every 2 weeks; 30 whole breast rad treatments and 3 boost rad treatments.
My mom passed away Jan '15 of metastatic disease. She was originally DX in 2010 with TNBC, Grade 3, Stage IIB, 0/4 nodes involved, genetic testing neg. She was DX 2013 with TNBC mets to liver. After several rounds of chemotherapy, her lesions were growing. She opted to stop treatment as it was making her very ill. RIP, Momma - I love and miss you!
I am currently being treated for anxiety and depression. Will I ever feel normal again? One day at a time
I am inspired by so many stories in this forum. Thank you for the support!

I am so sorry about your mom. And your own diagnosis! My mom died from breast cancer spread to the bones almost EXACTLY one year before I found the lump in my breast. She was 81, and had hidden the lump because she did not want any treatment - she was "ready to join" my dad, who had died 18 years before. Anyway - It was a very dramatic, traumatic, horrible blur, those few years. Post chemo I was thrust into chemo induced menopause that is my most difficult side effect STILL - I hate being menopausal! BUT - all of that and here I am - Sept. I'll be 6 years NED - menopause, breasts that are a size & 1/2 different sizes, still miss my mom every day - BUT - yes it has gotten so much better! I went on anti-depressants, and was occasionally taking anti-anxiety meds during chemo. I got off all of that about a year after chemo ended. And I slowly got less.......... sad. Less traumatized, less........spooked. And today I can say I am HAPPY, I am loving life and I'm not afraid. Even when I have my mammogram I'm not really afraid! It gets better. In fits and starts and over time it gets better and better. It takes time to get over all of that, it really does! And to lose your mom in the midst of it is just horrible, I am so very sorry for that. You will get better, you will feel stronger and you will be less sad. Give yourself a break - being depressed and being anxious after what you've been thru is normal, so don't do the inner chastizing yourself. Your friends and family think - you beat it, you should be thrilled and OVER IT! But nope, it takes time. Come here - share here - we know how it is and we will support you!

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom Kellyless! It feels reassuring to know how far you've come.
I pray everyday that it will somehow get easier. I know it will take time ... patience is not a strong quality of mine!
Thanks again for sharing your story and words of wisdom.

Hi WNYMom, Well I for one, am truly inspired by your story!!!
I hope that you will feel as normal as you can again. Some ask the question what is normal after breast cancer and it seems different to many of us. However I feel quite sure that you will feel much better each and every day after all of this is over and you get back to your old self. You are right in saying one day at a time...very important!
I can certainly understand the depression and anxiety. You are dealing with two very large events in your life. The death of your dear Mother at a time when you yourself were vulnerable with what you were dealing with...your own breast cancer and its treatment etc.
Despite all of this I detect a very courageous and determined person and a loving one. Very touching!
I am glad that you are receiving treatment...very wise and good. You deserve it as many here needed it too for one reason or another during this ordeal.
You have our support. My heart goes out to you for all that you have suffered. You are not alone. Please keep us posted anytime and may God Bless You and I will pray for you. I am sending you a big hug.
Love, Annie

What an unimaginable loss so soon to your own struggle. I'm so very sorry. I lost my MIL unexpectedly a couple of months ago and I'm still reeling from it. To lose your own mother to the same diagnosis--that's just cruel. I agree with Annie, though... your spirit underneath is obvious and you're ready to kick this to the curb!! Much love to you.

WNYMOM,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother from this same disease. Losing a loved one is unimagineable.
While BRCA testing is important, there are also several more genetic mutations that are associated with breast cancer. With a family history, you might want to consider additional testing. I did and so glad because we found a mutation associated with lynch syndrome (colon cancer). There's even a very affordable genetic screening of 19 different genes for $249. Steve created a post a while back and I"ll try to find it. Please consider additional testing.
This is the thread that Steve started talking about these new test:

Hi all, my names Jackie and I was diagnosed with triple neg grade 3 breast cancer on December 30th 2014 at 40 yrs old. Had 6 chemo's a lumpectomy and currently had 7/15 radiotherapy treatments. I'm the 1st in my family to have any kind of cancer so this came as a huge shock to me. Just glad at the moment to still be here and maybe to get to know others who have been through the same as me. Still cant get my head around the fact that I "had" cancer and still tying to get my head around that maybe 1 day it will return. But for now I need to finish all my treatment then perhaps I can try and get back to a normal kind of life. Good luck to all of you who are still going through it and well done to all of you who have been through it and kicked cancer's butt. xx

Jackie - Congratulations on getting to this point in your treatment! I,too, struggle with the "I had cancer" and "what if's". Surround yourself with positives and try to get some exercise (it helps!)

Jackie, it's a strange and long road and a very difficult one to share with people who haven't had the experience themselves. I'm glad you're here.
I hope you get a chance to check out the Vit D thread on the TALK forum. It's got tons of good information and the D might be something you'll want to add to your treatment.
Yes to the exercise, thanks WNYmom for the reminder, every little bit helps. There's lots that we can share here to help ease the journey, please reach out if we can help in any way. Mainy
