Hi everyone
My name is Yolanda and I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on 10/2/08. On 10/10/08 I had a 1.2 tumor removed with clear margins and no node involvement. I had a port put in at the same time as the lumpectomy. I go for my first consultation with my oncologist on 29 Oct 08. The waiting and the self diagnosing are driving me crazy. I received copies of my labs and if I'm reading them correctly I am Stage I, Grade 3, Triple Negative. I've read so much on the internet that it's hard to determine what the future holds for me. I have read anything that says exactly what is going to happen next or the exact treatment because each case is different and no one has a "cure-all" treatment for TNBC. I'm married with children and I'm active duty Air Force and been in for 16.5 years and just returned from a long deployment. I'm glad I found this site because having support from people in the same situation makes it more bearable. Hopefully I can be support to others in return.

Hi Yolanda,
Sorry to hear that you have been dx with bc. But, we are so glad that you have found us. You have certainly come to the right place for support and to give support.
Many wonderful people here who will be here for you every day.
We have many resources on this site, and the majority of them are from the gals. While TNBC is found to be an aggressive form of bc, it responds very well to chemo. It is my daughter Lori who was dx tnbc, June, 2007.
Her stats are at the bottom of my post. My husband is a retired Master Sergeant, Army, and we spent 20 years in the military. We live in Altoona, PA. May I ask where you will be receiving treatments?
Let me help you with retrieving the info that I know you will need going forward with treatments.
We have 6 forums on the site, and the newest one is "TNBC News, Resources and Tips". To find the forums go to the top of any page on the site page and click on forums. Then click on the one I have mentioned, and go to page 4. Click on "Directions on How to Access our many Resources". It has a to the left of it. There is another "help" called "Directions for adding your signature" there also.
Please print all the info out that you retrieve for further reference. It seems that your treatments are determined by your path report, so that is why each gal's tx is different.
Did you find your lump while deployed? Just keep reading what you find on the internet....but anything more than 3 years old is outdated. We have gals on the site who are 7,10,14,21, 22 years from dx.
This new forum also has many links for you to read. Pam posts new info every day, and you will not find that on any other bc site. However, your greatest resource will come directly from these amazing women. They will be truthful with you, and will answer every question you may have.
Again....welcome,
Hugs,
Nancy

Hello Yolanda,
I too am sorry to see you've been diagnosed but I wanted to welcome you into our family. You will feel so much better here. Ask any questions and we will do our best to help.
The waiting and thinking is like a nightmare but once things get started it will settle down. Good for you for getting copies of your labs, also get copies of any scans.
I'd like to thank you for your military service for your Country!
You are right about being with others who understand what you are going thru. This Foundation has given us the forum to talk to each other and they are working very hard to get the news out there about TNBC.
Keep us updated on how your visit with your Oncologist goes and how you are doing,
Best wishes

Hi Yolanda,
Sorry you had to join our club! I bet everything is a bit overwhelming for you right now, but you will be on the other side of this in no time....just one foot in front of the other.
Because you're so young and it's triple negative you need to research BRCA gene testing. Triple negative breast cancer can be a genetic cancer in which case you may want to look at additional prophylactic (preventative) treatment options. The BRCA test is done by a genetic counselor at your hospital, ask your doc for a referral. Many of us on the site, including me, are BRCA 1 positive and can help you with the millions of questions you'll have, you'll be an expert for the next round of newbies by the time you're finished.
Thanks for your service, you'll get through this too!

P.S. Have your doctor check your vitamin D levels. You want to ask for the 25 hydroxy D test. Most gals with BC are deficient. This is important....but we can go into later.
Most gals get dose dense AC+T or TAC for chemo. Post what they are suggesting for you. Are you going through base doctors for treatment???

Ronda,
You know that I typed in an entire post from you in our Chemo and Rad Tips, as to the D levels and the right test. I thought that was very important, and I hope that all who print them out really read that part.
See.....I really do love you

Yolanda -
Again - I am also sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Please remember when you hear the horror stories people will tell you thinking they are helping - In your head say - "This is not my story"
I am BRCA negative _ along with 3 others TNBC companions - I went thru treatment with little complications. And am now coming up on 2 yrs out Dec. 8th.
Hang in there - Winston Churchill said "If you find yourself going though hell - keep going" (or something close to that)
