Topic: Neulasta slde effects? Posted: Apr 09 2015 at 9:19am |
|
I had my first chemo, followed by neulasta injection on day 2, 8 days ago. The nausea and dizziness improved by day 5 and I have been trying to minimize the use of Zofran, because it gives me pretty bad headaches. Last night I developed spine pain, intense throbbing pain at the base of neck and lower back and pain between shoulder blades. Is this the neulasta? I am taking claritin, but only tylenol for pain; I was instructed to avoid NSAIDs due to effects on clotting.

I did not have side effects from Neulasta. I heard that bone pain is common.

Dear Cindy 52, Have you lifted anything out of the ordinary lately? Are you feeling stressed, anxious or having trouble sleeping? Sometimes I experience bad pain in my back, shoulders, neck and other places when I am stressed and anxious. Sometimes I not even aware of the stress, but I feel the effects. If you don't get relief soon, please check with your Dr. The neulasta pain is usually abated be day 8, or that was my experience. I hope you feel better soon.
God Bless, Lillie

I also took Claritin and apparently it worked for me too.

My experience with Neulasta was body aches similar to a bad case of the flu that put me right down on the couch for a few days. I also took the Claritin. The type of pain you described I did not experience but everyone is different. Talk with your onc about your pain. I remember the severe eye watering and headaches that I thought were from sinus but mentioned it to my onc and it was chemo side effect. Best wishes as you continue your journey. Tamara

About 36 hours after Neulasta I got neck and shoulder aches. This would progress to pretty much my whole body, and felt like the aches you get with the flu. It was almost all gone by the 4th day after the shot. I was recommended to Claritin, but I thought motrin worked better.

I assumed it was the Neulasta turning me into a mucus machine, but from reading on the forums a little it looks like this is possibly more related to the a-c chemo. I have finished the 4 rounds of those, and start weekly Taxol this week. I'm pretty worried about the neuropathy interfering with my sewing, quilting and crocheting. I have TNBC dx'ed May 2015, lumpectomy with clear margins, stage I-B, 3/3 neg nodes

Does anyone know if zrytec has the affect as Claritin? I take Zyrtec daily to keep my allergies somewhat in check since I am not in the mood to start over with shots again for the 5th time!! (Moving and allergies don't go well together)
I've been using Zyrtec for almost 3 yrs now and it's kept me from getting my sinus infections or bronchitis. I have bad dust mite allergies and the Claritin doesn't usually help with the indoor stuff. But if it helps while on chemo---I'll switch.

I'm one of those that had horrible side effects from the Neulasta shot. Claritin definitely helped.
Regarding if Zyrtec will work as well as Claritin? You might want to ask your onc or even a pharmacist. From what I've seen online, they are very similar and should work much in the same way.
