Does any one have a good system keeping track of medical bills, copays, ins., etc... I am finding this very overwhelming and getting quite a big stack of bills.

Hi Julie, I'll bet you get lots of good ideas for this one, it will be interesting to see what everyone says.
Unfortunately it won't be from me. I don't really do anything other than keep all of my c medical bills in a manila envelope for each year. Separate from regular medical bills. I put them in there after they have been paid and all of the insurance papers that apply.
I get EOB's from my ins. co. so I hold them out until the matching bill comes in and then pay, put away in the file cabinet in the appropriate manila envelope.
For all of my doc reports, scan resuts, articles that sort of thing I keep in an attractive box here beside my computer on top of the file cabinet.

I would use a binder with dividers for each type of service/practioner. Using a three-hole punch for papers 8-1/2x11 and including a pocket folder in each section for those little annoying credit card receipts. The most important thing is to keep up on it every day. I also have a notebook with copies of every blood test and the written results for every scan etc.
I must admit that I do not receive many bills because my insurance takes care of things quickly and I am only notified if something is not paid - typically because of human error in coding the charges. The key is to stay on top of this. If it is too overwhelming for you, get an accordion type file with the months listed on the tabs and put everything in there. That way, when a friend asks what can be done to help - voila, instant project! Everyone wins. Take care and all the best to you. Shellie |
