Just got diagnosed after a long round of inept practitioners slowing down the process.  Now I feel like I'm under the gun to make such life impacting decisions immediately and I don't know where to go or who to see.  Yikes! Freaking out!  My head is exploding and I can't concentrate.  Anyone have any recommendations on who/where is the best place to be treated for TNBC.  I am willing to travel.  Haven't even met with my local doc yet.  Found out my biopsy results through it being posted on the patient portal! Yikes!

Hi Kara, Sorry you find yourself on here but here is some help. Below is an old post with some oncologists in the Northeast. I live in NJ so I did get a second opinion with Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY Dr Traina. She is wonderful.
I also attached a link to a website that helps you find a specialist near you. I also know Dana Farber is popular and MD Anderson Texas. Honestly this site has been very quiet lately maybe Steve will check in. He has helped so many people on here as a patient advocate. However I haven't seen him on here lately. I pop on every now and again to see what's going on. Otherwise I participate in another online forum that is very active to get support.
Things will settle down once you have a plan in place. I understand how overwhelming it can be. Always here if you want to chat. Sending you strength and good vibes.

Hi Cookie54,

Thanks so much for the response and the info.  Working on trying to get in to see Dr. Traina.  Currently living in NC.  Considering Duke as a potential treatment center.  Do you have lead on anyone who is well versed in TNBC at Duke?  It would be nice to have the comforts of home but will do what's necessary for the best outcome.  Feeling the anxiety of getting into treatment ASAP and waiting for appointments is stressing me out...yikes!
Sending you strength and good vibes as well!
Gratefully,
Kara Leendah

Your very welcome! I don't know of a specific doc at Duke. All breast cancer oncologists can treat TNBC my longtime oncologist is not specific to TN but is a fabulous intelligent doctor who is very up to date on all breast cancer treatment. I think it's important that you find a doctor you feel confident in and that you feel is knowledgeable and current. There are so many great breast oncologists out there and if your first choice isn't the one you can move on.
My second opinion doctor after I was diagnosed stage iv was Dr Traina. I am  fortunate to get my treatment close to home but have her input on plans. I went to NY once for my initial consult and now if there is a change in my plan my oncologist can contact her. I believe this can be a consideration for you also. Of course you want to have treatment close to home as it is most convenient. You can choose a doc at Duke and then get a second opinion by a TNBC specialist of you choice.
I know you want it all resolved yesterday and in our minds we think our cancer is going crazy spreading etc. Most of the time it is not. The anxiety is tough I know but you need this time to research and get all your ducks in a row. Start a binder of all your contacts, reports ,questions and any info related to this. It will help you feel a more organized and a feel like you have some control.
