Hello,

I just found this site. I was diagnosed this past April and its been a crazy time since then. I found a lump while nursing my then 6 month old son. I thought I had mastitis and called my OB. After several rounds of antibiotics, they sent me for an u/s and was told it was probably a lactating adenoma and it would disappear when I finished nursing. But the breast was inflamed and extremely tender. So they tried to aspirate the lump, but got nothing. So I was sent for another u/s for a guided needle aspiration. The Dr again got nothing out of the lump, so they biopsied it. The radiologist assured me it was more than likely just an infection. And they called me a few days later and told me it was cancer.

I had a port placement May 2012. It was placed on a Wednesday, and by the following Monday I was in the hospital for trouble breathing, high heart rate, and weakness. I had pericarditis, or fluid build up in the sack around my heart. It was caused apparently by pneumonia, they biopsied it to make sure it was not the cancer, which is a possible cause of pericarditis. I was in the hospital for a week and had a pericardial effusion done to drain the fluid.

I was finally able to start my Chemo, two weeks late. I just finished my 10th round of Taxol, and have 2 more to go. After that I start on A & C for 4 treatments over 8 weeks. After that surgery. And we will go from there as to what to do next.

I am a wife and mommy to two. A 3.5 yr old and an almost 10 month old boys. We live in SE WI, so if anyone has any Recs for good breast surgeon, please let me know!

Hello Kendra,

I am so glad you found this site.  We welcome you and know that you will be able to get a lot of support from all the ladies here.  None of us want to be here, but since we are, we are making the most of it.  This is a group of diverse ladies and gentlemen.  20's to 80 ish........

I am so sorry that this dispicable disease has entered your life at all, but at age 25 you shouldn't have to be dealing with breast cancer.  It sounds as though you are on a good course of treatment to "kick this cancer into oblivion."
I am a 6 year survivor and please let that be a source of strength for you to drawn from.   Please keep posting and let all of us travel this journey together.

We have a Spiritual Support thread that may be of interest to you.  Please check it out and post there if you wish.

God Bless,
Lillie

Hi Kendra,

Welcome! I am so glad that yuo found us! If you have had a chance to look around, you will have seen that you in a wonderfully supportive place! It sounds like you have been through the ringer with your complications. Maybe Steve will chime in about Pregnancy Induced BC- I don't think Induced is the right word, but the only one my chemo brain can come up with right now!

With your very young age, you should also consider sending a blood sample to the King study posted under the Talk Forum; they will test you for every currently known genetic mutation for BC.

If you are able to travel for surgery, I would strongly recommend Dr. Lisa Newman at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It would be a bit of a haul for you, but very do-able and worth it. I travelled six hours to go there and we stayed overnight in a hotel when I had my surgery and drove home the following day. Dr. Newman specializes in TNBC, is an amazingly compassionate person and aesthetically, did a fantastic job on my lumpectomy. Perhaps others will have recommnedations of someone closer to you.

Keep enjoying those boys and keep us posted with your progress!

Hello Kendra,
Welcome I am so sorry you have to be here because of this horrible disease. On a positve note you are half way there with your chemo FANTASTIC it will be over with soon pribably not soon enough for you but it will come to an end. I am sorry I can not give you advice with doctor's in your area as you can see I am from P.A., but I am sure some one will chime in soon. My only advise to you is follow through with what your doctor's recommend if you are not comfortable with them seek a second opinion. I see you are very young with this diagnosis and to me I believe you are all that stronger, I was diagnosed when I was 43 and I thought that was to young. Chemo for us is are number one weapon against this awful disease so look at he positive side you are half way there great thing. Why we are faced with this disease god only knows but we can get through this. Keep in touch I wish nothing more for you then a healthy and happy future for you and your family.
Hugs,
Denise

Hello again everyone:

I too am half way done with chemo.  I had 4 rounds of A/C and have had 4 rounds of Taxol with 8 more to go!  So far I am doing well with the Taxol except for being tired.  I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel with a half way point.  I have surgery scheduled tentatively for 10/31/12 then radiation.   It is a long road and I will be glad when the chemo is done!  Hang in there Kendra, we will get through this!!!!!!

Best,
Amy

Hi Kendra,
I was sad to read how young you are and that you have two little ones counting on you through all the stuff you have to endure. I think sometimes our kids give us more reason to fight to live than anything else on the planet!  You are wise to ask for advice from the TNBC's on this site.  They are very knowledgable and full of wisdom. We are lucky to have each other. Smile

Take one day at a time and know that we are here if you need to cry, vent, laugh, or whatever. I also post on the Spiritual Support thread and found it to be a great group of people, encouraging and uplifting, sometimes "just what the Dr. ordered."

Hi Kendra,
I'm glad you found this site.  I had my AC doses first before the Taxol (every part of the country does it a little differently..) as you go into the AC doses, just prepare for the weekend after your doses (or about 3 days after chemo) to be the time when you have the least energy. I found it best to try to do nothing but sit in the recliner and watch TV.  That will be hard with young children, but if you have friends that can distract them for a day or two every two weeks you will get through it a lot better.
Check with the local American Cancer Society or larger cancer centers in your area to get names of breast surgeons.  Keep asking people you know with breast cancer and you'll eventually keep hearing the same name or two mentioned which usually means they are the best!
Diagnosed Oct 2011 @ age 53, Stage 1c, grade 3, 1.5Cm, neg nodes;double mastectomy with TE, dose dense AC+Taxol; BRCA neg; treatments finished April 2012

I hope all continues to go well with Chemo.
I am TNC and on #3 of Chemo with A & C.
Dr Tjoe at Siani Hospital is fantastick.

I has my node removed first, and will have a lumpectomy after a & C then Taxol.

Hope this helps!!!
