Due to my recent diagnosis and BRCA1 + status, my family was very eager for my only biological sibling, my older sister, to get tested for the BRCA1 gene mutation. My sister has three daughters ranging in age from twin 15 year olds to a 19 year old sophomore in college.
The good news is that my sister DOES NOT cary the BRCA1 mutation. I am so overwelmed with joy knowing that for my family, this horid genetic mutation will end with me. For some unknown reason, I made the conscious decision at a very young age to not have children. Consequently, this particular mutation will not be passed on to anyone else. I know this sounds morbid, I am just thankful that I did not pass this mutation along.
