"What we found is that one reason chemotherapy frequently does not work is that you kill the bulk of the tumor but leave many of the stem cells behind,” said Lewis. “It appears that these cells, by their nature, are resistant to the effects of anti-cancer drugs."

good morning our dear sweet Pam,I see that you are on here doing what you do so graciously and beautifully for all of us(very informative information)I have not had a chance to read it yet because I wanted to try to catch you while you was on line and I will If I do not try to write my Novels that I somehow tend to do.
I hope that this little note finds you up and chipper this morning. You are on line,so that helps me to feel that you are doing pretty much ok this morning.I know that I have sent message after message out to Theresa who was suppose to have her 2nd treatment fri.before last and she has not been on line since the 23rd.Isure hope that she is not having a bad time of it.
Well I thought that I would give you a short report on my sister. She had her 1st chemo on May1 and she has been doing excellent ,but today she is feeling the arthritis more in the back and neck and such.We got her on Neurontin a while back and Thank Goodness that we did.It would probably have been worse. We do not live in the same town, but I have been with her these last few days at her house and we have so enjoyed being together, sitting out in the morning with our coffee watching the squirrells, beautiful birds and almost watching each plant grow an inch at a time.I would just bet that we could tell you from one day to the next what plant had what flower bloom. But the most beautiful and interesting thing that really excited us the most was that we saw for the first time this year ,the scouts for the hummingbirds.I do not know haw many of you out there watch these beatiful little birds, but they are so interesting and beautiful to watch.
Well here I go with my novel again.I know that there are going to be harder days to come, but for now there is no way that I will ever forget the closeness that we have felt these last few days together.I do not mean to sound gloom and doom as if there will not be any more days like these past few,but I do have to say this,it is a terrible same in todays time that sometimes our lives take us in so many different directions that we do not sat aside just one week out of the year for sisters to be together, maybe always at the time when the hummingbids come together and do their gathering. So sweet Pam,you have a beautiful and glorius day and keep giving us all of that wonderful information tyhat you do so well and always always know that ALL OF US OUT HERE TRULY APPRECIATE IT MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE.Take care and hopefully we will see a post from Theresa very soon. Thoughts for all of us (the patients and the caregivers)Billie

Hi Billie, it's so good to hear from you and get an update on your sister.
Billie I love your novels, what a beautiful story about you and your sister watching the flowers and hummers. I too am a hummer gal.
You are so right, if we could only do these types of things more often it would be better for everyone. My sister and I have become closer thru the last few years and I'm very thankful for that. She lives in another State like you two.
It sounds like your sister is doing pretty well but I'm sorry to hear her Arthritis is kicking in. Some chemos can cause bone pain. If it bothers her too much be sure and have her call her Oncologist and he may be able to help her.
I too hope Theresa is doing ok!
Reading your post again just confims how special the little quiet times can be with someone you love.

What I don't understand about a study like that is why did they use women who didn't have the marker? Seems like it would be a more valid test if all the women had the marker & then you compared them.
Either way, unfortunately it leaves us out again. Thanks for the link though - it is very interesting to see how the researchers minds are working.

Hi Billie,
I just put out the hummingbird feeder on Friday, and they started feeding on Saturday. We usually have them fly up to the stormdoor and just flutter, as if to say"Well where is it? We're back" We love watching them. They are so graceful and beautiful. We live in Altoona, PA, and they come back sometime in April to early May. I read online that they can leave our area as early as July. If you get online, it tells about their migration and all they have to do to go South. They actually fly over the Gulf in one swoop.
Hard to imagine, considering their size and how much they have to consume just to stay alive.
They are a hardy breed. Somewhat like you ladies
We also have 2 woodpeckers now who apparently have taken up residency close to our house. We had a reeeeally big woodpecker 2 years ago, but haven't seen him since. We live in the city.
Nature has so much to offer...all we have to do is enjoy.
Love your novels billie

Good morning Nancy and Pam,I have to tell you that I cried and cried when I read Rhonda's post about her sister's diagnoses. We may all need to be put on something for depression before they come up with a plan. You know it is a sad state of affairs when we (john Q public)have to now go into a so called Dr.s office and we ourselves have to tell this Dr. and insist to this Dr. that you yourself know that something is going on.Is there any kind of blood work that can be done to determine if there is a beginning of cancer anywhere in the body?.If there is then the word needs to be got out that the patient themselves has the right to tell this Dr. that they want this test done.Or better yet, every Dr. needs to do this test as well as any blood sugar or colesterol test.Maybe if there isn't, they need to come up with something and then the word got out about this blood test. That way,we the patient, may not be so much at the mercy of these quack Dr.s.I don't know,I guess that would be a little to easy.Well ladies ,my sister has asked that I try to find out if there are any natural products, like the ones that are listed in the 11 effective natural strategies to help to kill your cancer zeolite natural supplements for fighting cancer, that any of the ladies are trying( along with or without Chemo and Radiation theraphy). She is now getting very concerned about the reacurrence of the cancer or the matastisis of the cancer. She wants to try right now(if her chemo onc will let her)if not right after she completes her treatments, natural strategies to try to change the structure of her body.I know that I have read that one of these ladies, if not several, believe very much in this, but I cannot remember which one.
May all of us remember to take the time to stop and smell the roses as well as to stop and watch the hummingbirds hum.Something funny, when my husband and I married,he was throughly convinced that(because someone had told him this I suppose)that these little birds came into this world flapping their wings and that if they stopped flying that they would die
Well, I don't know how you ladies are ,I did not argue with him, I just patiently waited for the little creatures to com.And come they did.And then I just looked at him and heard him scrambling for words.
So to all you ladies have a wonderful day.And for any one out there ,please help me find out some answers for my sister. Thanks Billie

Morning Billie.
I'm sorry I cannot help you with your sister's concerns about natural products. I wouldn't be able to suggest anything because I do not use them so am un-informed as to what is good or bad.
I'm sure somebody will come along very soon. You might try the search box?
Ronda is very wise on alot of these things.
I had a neighbor tell me sincerely years ago that when the hummers left for the winter they flew on the backs of geese.

Just have to chime in here,
Some times it is great to hear you ladies talk about other "things". Check out this site for the birds.
A few minutes to think about something beautiful and graceful....and....
determined to make it...no matter what the odds
Hugs,

You ladies are really making me homesick for the place we lived 10 yrs ago -- it was in the woods, the back deck was literally in the trees. I loved to sit in the swing with whichever grandchild was around. We'd be very quiet and still, so the hummingbirds would come right up to us. Unbelievable how quiet a child can be !
