Hello,
My mets were first mediastinal nodes, diagnosed in December 2007. I had one node that was protruding into my airway and causing a cough. Mets was confirmed through a bronchoscopy that took some cells from the largest node. I had chemo (carboplatin and taxotere) six treatments January through April, 2008. I had a great response to chemo, and was stable until my CT scan in November, 2008, when there was a slight bit of hilar (another area in the lung) node adenopathy. Since it was a small amount, and not clearly mets, my onc and I decided to wait and watch, and rescan in two months. So, we rescanned in January, and the nodes are still stable, so I am not on chemo.
The bad thing was, that I developed a very small brain met. I just had a feeling that something wasn't right, and my onc ordered a brain MRI just to be sure, and that tiny spot showed up. I had it zapped in early January. My organs still are clear, and we are not positive that the hilar lymphadenopathy is even mets, just assume it is because of my history.
I have my follow-up brain MRI tomorrow, to check the results from the Gammaknife. I feel really good, and I'm hopeful for a long time of stable disease.
