Topic: Remembering Kristen Owens Posted: Jul 10 2014 at 3:02pm |
Kristen Owens did not have triple negative breast cancer. She had an extremely rare type of uterine cancer. Kristen died this morning. She was a 21 year old college student and had fought the cancer for 2 years. She had 3 surgeries and approx. 40 chemo treatments of various chemos and trials. Nothing stopped the progress of the cancer. I hope it is OK to post her name here. She fought a fight that was unbelievable to watch. She never gave up hope. When she was told about 3 weeks ago that nothing else medically was available for her she made the decision, going against her parents wishes, to live her last days in dignity with hospice. Since then, she was the key-note speaker for the 2014 graduation class at the high school she graduated from. I have been requesting prayer for her on the Spiritual Support thread. God be with her mother, father and 2 brothers.
Love, Lillie

Thank you for posting Lillie. May God be with her family. She was certainly a very brave young woman taken far too early.

Dear Lillie, This disease, whether it be breast cancer or some other type of cancer, is so unfair! Our young people should not be facing death so soon. My heart aches for Kristen's family and I pray that God will wrap His loving arms around them and comfort them in their grief.
Love & prayers, Genie

Lillie, thank you for sharing Kristen's story with us. Way too young. I'm sure that was a honor for her to speak at her alma mater graduation class, what amazing strength that shows.
So sorry, Melissa

Hi Lillie,
When I read stories like this it really takes my breath away how someone so young can pass away from this type of cancer. It's just so sad and so wrong on so many levels. Her decision to enter hospice in her final weeks against her parents wishes shows great courage and maturity. I'm sure this would be devastating for any parent to accept. I wish them peace and comfort in dealing with this tragedy. RIP Kristen.
