I am almost 3 months out from my last round of chemo and have noticed that a few of my fingernails are loose and have big white/clear spots underneath.  Have you lost some of your fingernails/toenails?  They are very painful anytime I hit them or apply pressure to them trying to do anything with my fingers....I have trimmed them down about as short as I can stand so I don't rip them off on accident.  I guess I just thought most side effects had already shown themselves, so this is a surprise and I didn't even know this would happen.  Every time I think I've gotten through something new shows up!

my fingernails were an ugly mess and lifted way up, but didn't loosen.   i lost 8 1/2 toenails though, and all the nails started 'turning' early on, during my A/C.   it does take a long time to get the drugs out of our bodies, that is for sure.  i would consider some gentle detoxing, a kelp supplement, a green juice that has spirulina or chlorella in it and an everyday liver detox tea, for example.   it seems like there is no end to the weirdness that is cancer treatment sometimes, doesn't it.

Yup, that sucks. It's critical that you keep your fingers/nails and toenails as clean as possible right now. My doctor told me to soak them in Epsom salt, which I did. I also ended up putting bandaids on the fingers where the nails were loose, with a tiny bit of bacitracin ointment and then changed the bandaid every day.

I did lose the nails on 3 fingers and both big toes. The toenails I had my doctor remove but the fingernails I did myself.

Just one more thing where when a girlfriend complains to me about a chipped nail now I just give her the old hard stare back. We go through alot we do.

My nails and toenails turned black. So black it looked like I had black polish on. Before my surgery the nurse actually said ' Honey we should have asked you to remove your polish'. I told her no polish just a side effect of chemo. I lost the nails on my big toe and a few others right after chemo. My finger nails became loose right after I had surgery. My doctor suggested to soak in Epsom salt. I let air dry and cover with band aids.   My nails are currently growing back. I have 3 that have traces of black. My toe nails are still totally black. However I can see tremendous improvement in my big toe nails. I am finished chemo in September but still going through the side effects.
It gets better, hang in there.

I'm over 4 months out from my last chemo and still losing parts of my finger nails- they seem to split/break off about halfway down the nail bed. I keep them cut as short as I can so they don't snag on anything. During chemo, they did turn mostly black.  I've only lost one big toe nail. At least they are normal color now.
