I have been off the board for about a week and I am very tired so with apologies I just looked for the post and was unable to find it.. and wanted to post this info in response to someone who posted looking for information about a week ago..I was unable to post because the internet went down in the hotel..

There is a book called "The Breast Reconstruction Handbook" by Kathy Steligo. Kathy is a dear friend of mine and I think she is very knowledgeable.
I have no financial interest in her book but many women have told me that they have found it extremely helpful..

perhaps someone else posted about this in response to the question?..if so, you have my apologies for the duplication..

all the best,

Steve

Steve,

An excellent subject to start a new thread, as is seems many have been posting about this lately. Kathy's book is on our list of books, and I believe it was Caryn who recommended it when we were compiling our list of books. Thank you dear friendWink

Dear Nancy and all-

I think one of the major problems many women face is that they are forced to be advocates for themselves and find out what procedures might make sense for them. I have found that many Plastic Surgeons(PS) will knock certain procedures and when asked "have you been trained in this procedure?" quite often there is a silence followed by "well, no, actually I haven't." So, all too often, a woman is told by a PS.."this is the procedure I recommend for you" because that is the procedure or perhaps procedures that he does but other procedures that may be worthwhile are not presented because the PS does not perform them.

One of the great things about FORCE is that when they have regional meetings there is normally a "show and tell" at every meeting and women share their surgery experiences with others...My daughter, who was normally very modest about her body pre-surgery amazed me because at her support group for young women with breast cancer when a woman wanted to see what silicone "felt" like she told me she would pull up her blouse and say "here..you can touch them if you would like"...

I think "The Breast Reconstruction Handbook" is a good place to start and talking to other women about various procedures can be a valuable experience..

all the best,

Steve
