Hi there, I am a 35 year old mother of two and fitness trainer.  I recently was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer along with DCIS.  They took three centinal nodes which were negative.  I had my port placed.  My PET scan showed nothing that we didn't already know about.  This puts me on the edge of stage 1 or 2.  Today my BRCA testing came back positive for BRCA 1 gene mutation.  The plan now stands to do chemo either the dose dense for 4 months or the longer 6 months, then double mastectomy with reconstruction, then possibly my ovaries.  This is tough.  I live an extremely healthy lifestyle so this is a really hard pill to swallow.  Plus now there are implications for my two daughters as well as my siblings (we had zero family history of cancer up until me).  I'm seeing a nutritionist Friday to help me through chemo and likely I will start chemo the following week.  I'm super scared and just overwhelmed by all of this.

Jay,

I am sorry you had to join our little club, but I have to say this is a very supportive and informative group.
It is great you are already health conscious, that will help a lot during and after.
I is very scarey, and where you are now is the scariest part in my mind.
Do you know what Chelo you will be getting? many of us here have done DD (dose dense) ACT or TAC difference being Taxol first or last.
of course these particular meds do not speak for everyonee like I said.

More members will be along to add.
Please keep us posted, any and all feelings and questions are welcome.

Jayhy,

I'm so sorry you received this diagnosis.  It sounds like you are probably in excellent shape and hopefully will have minimal side effects from chemo.

Have you had your Vitamin D level checked?  Most of us diagnosed are deficient in Vitamin D.

Please keep us posted.

Hi Jay, So sorry to hear your news...you have come to the right place, absolutely everyone here has experienced your fear.  I just wanted to let you know that I had the same diagnosis as you...btwn stage one and two..I am here to tell you that I am 6 1/2 years out, with NO reoccurance...There is a lot of hope, so try not to worry too much(impossible I know).  There is so much more information about TNBC out there now then there was when I was diagnosed.  This is a good place to be, as everyone here will support you and try to answer all of your questions...Good luck on your journey and God Bless!

Natalie, thank you.  Two different oncologists suggested I did not do dose dense, so I will do the 6 months of AC+TC with AC being first.

Jayhy,

Is one of the C's in your chemo Carboplatin?

Hi Jay.  I remember how scary these first few weeks are.  Calm down and breathe and know that cancer doesn't pick only the unfit but you didn't do anything to cause this. It doesn't seem like it but this is happening to you for a reason - at least that is my philosophy in life.  I look back on the past 9 months since my diagnosis, and there are so many wonderful things that have happened to me due to the fight with this beast.

I have girls 14 and 12 year old so yes the genetic factor will be an issue.  I had my ovaries taken out at the same time as my double mastectomy.  I think that surgery initially was the most painful but easiest to heal from.

We are all here for you so post or message any of us as you feel the need for answers.

Donna, no it's cytoxan.  It's the third generation chemo (so I was told) that is mixtures of two different types.  Up until last week, I had no clue about chemo meds and what was what.  I still really don't.

Barb, thank you!
