Hello, I'm new to this site so just starting to get accustomed to the forums.  I am the daughter and my mom was diagnosed with TN BC this past Jan.  She had her Mastectomy in Feb and began Chemo last week (6 wks after surgery).  I was glad to find a site that is solely dedicated to TNBC patients so that I'm able to read on their experiences specifically.  

I'm trying to plan out time off from work to help my mom and needed some help to understand the times.
My mom will be on the following cycles:  4Cycles of AC (Once every three weeks) and then 4Cycles of Taxotere (Once every three weeks).  Has anyone on this site been on a similar regimen?  I only have certain # of vacation days and will then have to use FMLA with no pay so need to plan accordingly.  I would like to be there for her during her worst weeks with Chemo.  She did fine this past week but I've heard it gets worse later.  Will she be worst during the 1st weeks of cycle or 1st two weeks of cycle?  Is Taxotere worst than AC?  I'm hoping for the best minimal side effects but will have to be prepared for the worst.  

I'm not able to find anyone with a similar regimen and was getting nervous but the Onco did say she can't get Taxol b/c she has a problem with one of her kidneys.  I keep reading Taxotere and Cytoxan combos or where they have taken Taxol after AC.  But I can't seem to find anyone who was on AC first and then Taxotere and that also once every three weeks.  

Your help is appreciated.

Hi B2014,

You've come to a good place for support and information.  Glad you found us.  You are correct, most women will get A/C followed by Taxol, other like me got Cytoxin with Taxotere.  Taxol, Taxotere and Abraxane are chemos in the same family.  Taxol is different where it can be given dose dense - every week or every 2 weeks, while Taxotere is every 3 weeks.  Others can chime in on side effects on A/C, but probably worst the first week after treatment.  The side effects of Taxotere should be much easier than A/C, mostly neuropathy and bone ache/pain.  

Here's a good site where you can look up the different chemos and read about their possible side effects.  These are probable, but not everyone experiences the all or the same side effects.

Thanks for your help. That site is very helpful.  She has her first Onco follow up tomorrow.  Praying for good CBC results.  Hoping her White Blood Cell Count stays good.
