Whitney Yoder Lowe, you'll be missed...

 WHITNEY LOWE

WOOSTER -- It is with grieving hearts that the family of Whitney Yoder Lowe, 26, of Wooster must advise the community and its many helpful, encouraging friends of the passing of our beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and cousin on June 8, 2012, at Wooster Community Hospital. A celebration of Whitney's life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Zion Lutheran Church, 301 N. Market St., Wooster, with the Rev. Eric Fairhurst officiating. Interment will follow at Wooster Cemetery. McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, is assisting the family; and friends may call at the funeral home between the hours of 5-9 p.m.. on Monday, June 11. Those who wish may contribute in Whitney's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, or the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, P. O. Box 204, Norwood, N.J., 07648.

Whitney was born in Wooster on October 12, 1985, to Jeffrey Lowe and Sandra and Philip Kline. Whitney was a member of the 2004 class of Wooster High School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wooster.

Whitney graduated in May, 2009, from Muskingum University, with a degree in sociology and child and family studies, but her promising career was cut short with the diagnosis of Triple Negative breast cancer in October, 2010.

She is survived by her loving and devoted parents; by her maternal grandparents, R. Richard and Sally Yoder; paternal grandparents, Jeanie Lowe and David and Marceal Lowe; grandmother, Phyllis Kline; her sister and brother, Kelsey Elizabeth Kline and Philip Joseph Kline; aunts and uncles, Randy and Sandra Yoder, Wendy Raus, Jody and Larry Merrix, and David and Karen Cowan; and further survived by several cousins and special friends, Deveri and Rich Moore and Sandie Ullery, and the Tom and Joyce Barker Family. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Robert C. Kline.

"I beg of you, do not forget me when the phenomenon of death visits me. Keep my memory alive. For if you forget me, only then will I have surely died."

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to those who shared in Whitney's illness, who understood her pain, who prayed with her and gave her strength for each aching step, who consoled us as a family and walked with us, providing food and other aid as we faced this unthinkable loss -- especially our patient and understanding employers, Wooster City Schools, The Prentke Romich Company, and Carlton and Graham Retail Construction Company, the Hospice professionals and Dr. Paul Masci.

Want to leave your condolences?

WALKING IN THEIR HONOR, MEMORY AT RELAY FOR LIFE

Walking in their honor, memory

By LINDA HALL Staff Writer Published:

WOOSTER -- Her family had planned to walk in her honor; instead, they walked in her memory Friday evening at Relay for Life on the Wooster High School track.

Whitney Lowe, 26, lost her courageous battle with triple negative breast cancer -- one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer -- early Friday afternoon, but she embodied the Relay spirit up until the end of her life.

"Even today," Lowe's aunt, Wendy Raus of Wooster, said, stepping off the track shortly after the event began on Friday evening, "I walked in, and I said, 'How are you, honey?' and she said, 'Great,' and she could hardly breathe."

"She didn't want to die," Raus said, and she encouraged everyone around her "to live every day to the fullest."

"She had a strong will," Raus said, and continued to assert, "I'm not going to die."

But her niece said, if she did die, "I'll see you all soon, and I love you."

"One thing we (had) told Whitney," Raus said, is that her struggle was not in vain.

Sandy Kline, Lowe's mother and Raus's sister, will be an advocate for continuing the fight against the disease, Raus said. "(Kline) wants to be an advocate and be a speaker to the medical field, to women, to girls. She will help and save women."

"Whitney wanted the family to come here tonight," Raus said, and by 8:30 p.m. 16 of her relatives had joined the walk.

PRC members, co-workers of Kline, also remembered Whitney.

"She has been so strong, such a fighter, such an inspiration to all of us," said Jan Hughes.

"We're glad she's no longer suffering," Hughes said, and grateful that she and her family "made a lot of good memories as a family that they shared with us."

The family "touched our hearts," Hughes said, adding, Kline "fought for Whitney all the way through. She was a true advocate for Whitney. Everything that could be done was done."

"It's amazing how many people in the community were touched by Whitney," Nancy Crisafulli said.

"Not a year goes by" that the district is "not touched by the sad news" of a diagnosis of cancer or a life lost to it, said Michael Tefs, superintendent of Wooster City Schools, a partner of Relay for Life, at its opening ceremony.

"A 5-year-old kindergarten student, the mother of a freshman, the daughter of a science teacher," Tefs elaborated, the latter referring to Phil Kline, whose daughter, Lowe, "lost a courageous battle with cancer just this afternoon."

Tefs said all those attending and serving at Relay for Life represented "a sign of hope."

"For the next 18-19 hours, the Wooster community will join together in the fight against cancer," said Wooster Mayor Bob Breneman, praising the community for raising $3 million in 16 years. "That's an awesome amount. Wooster always amazes me with the generous enthusiasm and support given to good causes."

Melissa,

Thanks so much for sharing Whitney's story.  She was a beautiful, young women taken too soon from us.  There are no words to describe my anger or sadness for her family.  We need to find a cure.

This is so terribly sad. Another beautiful, young life cut short by this aweful disease. I echo Donna's sentiments and pray for the peace and comfort of Whitney's family and friends.

Fight For Whitney Lowe, Remembering My Triple Negative Breast Cancer Sister, 26 yrs. Young...

,
Whitney Yoder Lowe
I sit here and try to make sense of why we're losing so many sisters to Triple Negative Breast Cancer, why Whitney? She was 26,  just way too young to be dealing with breast cancer. On Friday, June 8, 2012, after a 19 month courageous battle with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, my friend, Whitney Lowe went to sleep to drift away into the arms of our loving God to be among our other TNBC pink angels. Whitney was surrounded by her loving family, telling them that she loved them and she'll see them all soon... shortly afterwards, she passed peacefully.  Passing on the day of their local Relay for Life walk, that evening 16 of her family member gathered to walk in the event in memory of their beloved Whitney. As promised to Whitney, her mother, Sandy will continue to keep her legacy alive as she will advocate for the fight against Triple Negative Breast Cancer and spread awareness of the importance of early detection in young women... This was Whitney's wish.

I had just visited Whitney and her mother, Sandy just 2½ weeks prior knowing this would be my last visit with Whit but it was a very nice visit. I have witnessed the most loving  and courageous connection between a mother and daughter, they were a "team" as they both would say... I admired that in them two. If there was fear of uncertainty, Whitney did not show it.  Sandy remained strong for her daughter, in survival mode living life with Whitney for today.  Whitney so wanted to live and hoped her latest chemo treatment would be her "miracle" but her cancer had spread and weakened her body. A couple of months prior, Whitney had taken her dream tropical vacation to Puerto Rico with her family, a family togetherness that leaves treasured memories of her love and happiness, this was her living life to the fullest.

Last August 2011, I was thrilled to meet Whitney and her mother, Sandy face to face during one of her chemo treatments at the Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland, Ohio. I had met them both through my online TNBC Support Group shortly after Whitney's diagnosis. Whitney was a beautiful, sweet  and amazingly brave young lady who had so much life to fight for, but her clinical trials had eventually failed her... healing prayers were all that was left to offer.

May you rest peacefully, Whitney as we continue your fight for other young women faced with this dreaded disease... Whit, you'll always be in my heart, and you will be missed by all that you have touched, love you my sister.
Sandy, I pray God gives you the strength to bring you through this... you and Whit are an inspiration to women everywhere, I love you my dear sis.

Sandy, Whitney and me

Us Triple Negative Breast Cancer Sisters so need our targeted therapy and ultimately a cure for all of us.
We desperately need TNBC research moved into clinical trials, then moved into FDA approved treatment, we don't have time for the 5 year wait for this transition to happen.

What a wonderful loving tribute to Whitney. My heart is aching for her family and friends.

When is the horrible disease going to quit taking so many young women, women who have their whole lives ahead of them? I pray daily for a cure.

Dear Melissa,
What a lovely way to memorialize a friend.  I pray that you and all of Whitney's family will feel "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" in the days and months ahead.

It truly is shocking that a 26 year old woman can be taken away by this horrible disease.  Lord, please, we need a cure.

A TRUE WARRIOR -- On Friday, June 8, as Relay for Lifers were setting up all over the Follis Field area, I received a phone call I'd been dreading, telling me of the passing of Whitney Lowe, after a two-year battle with breast cancer. As I knew and was to find out even more during services for Whitney earlier this past week, she had a ton of friends, supporters and rooters. Even better, she had a great family beside her every step of the way, especially her mom, Sandy, sister Kelsey, brother Joe, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, her father, Jeff Lowe, and her other father, Sandy's husband Phil Kline.

Phil's been one of my best friends for more than 40 years, and I've known Whitney since she was knee-high. During the beautiful service for her Tuesday, Pastor Eric Fairhurst -- also, like Phil and me part of the same class in high school -- told everyone that we should be glad Whitney is in a better place. Another wise man I know told me that Whitney's passing shouldn't be mourned, but her separation from us should be.

Although it's heartbreaking to see her family in pain with the loss of a young woman way too early at age 26, maybe Whitney's job here on Earth was done. She fought her illness like crazy, reinforced her own personal bond with her faith, and, as was mentioned at the service, was both wisecracking and able to express the love for her family right until the very end. I know, personally, I'll think of Whitney when I'm walking at Relay, just as I did this year, and how she faced cancer with bravery and courage. Basically, as another friend put it, she kicked cancer's rear end. - Mike Plant http://the-daily-record.com/local%20sports/2012/06/17/smithies-win-7th-wcal-all-sports-trophy

You will be heard Whitney...

I arrived walking into a line leading into the funeral home. The viewing line zig-zagged into and through 4 rooms and back out again passing by many family portraits of Whitney and Sandy's family. Hundreds of Whitney's family and friends including myself waited patiently and quietly for 1 hour to hug our Sandy and give her our condolences. You could feel the love and support for Whit's family that evening. Sandy amazingly strong, I hugged her. We briefly spoke of telling and getting Whitney's story out there, her story needs to be heard. I went on to walk up to where Whitney was resting in her rose pink "bed", she looked peaceful and beautiful lying with her pink ribbon blanket and a picture of her dog, Buster at the other end. Whitney was wearing the matching bracelet that is shown in the photo with her and her family hands together in a circle, all wearing matching bracelets. The tear-jerker for me was seeing her old brown teddy bear beside her, the same teddy bear that I saw with Whitney lying in her hospital bed with her 3 weeks prior. I went on to meet Whitney's aunt, cousin and grandmother and spoke briefly of how we met in our online TNBC support group. Ladies I chose to go to Whitney's viewing rather than the funeral and burial the next day. It's painful to see one of your sisters have passed but it's even more painful to see a friend, our Sandy lay her child to rest. Whitney, may you be at peace and God bless Sandy and her family.
