My mom have tnbc T2N3M0. She's got radical mastectomy, six lymph nodes removed. She is taking chemotherapy: paclitaxel + doxorubicin, every 21 day, six courses. After three courses they give her radiation therapy. How effective is this treatment.

Can you tell me please, where can I get a second opinion from professional breast oncologist via internet (email, chat and etc)?

Sorry for my bad english.

I'm sorry I don't understand the abbreviation T2N3MO.
It sounds like the proper therapy, my wife has had similar chemotherapy,  There are people here, who could recommend you to a local oncologist opinion, if you say where you are.

Hello Olia!

I'm sorry to hear that your mother has cancer. I'm glad that you found this group, there is a lot of information and helpful people here.

The chemos that she is receiving are very common, but a second opinion is always a good idea. I'm sorry, but I don't know who might offer an opinion online.

For Gordon or others wondering, T2N3M0 pertains to her staging. Details here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TNM_staging_system

Best wishes for your mother. :)

I started Taxol and had my third treatment yesterday. I was told that my neutrophils were at 1.3 yesterday and to be careful. With the A/C I was taking Neulasta to bring the counts up between the chemo but how does the count go up with weekly Taxol treatments? I have been going to Acupuncture every week a few days after chemo and wondering if it will be safe to continue acupuncture at this time. I am also taking 10 g of Glutamine 3 times a day to help prevent Neuropathy. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Renate,

Good to see you posting, I've been thinking about you, wondering how you're doing. Honestly, I think the best thing to do is ask your oncologist about the acupuncture and glutamine, it seems each oncologist has their own protocol.
When I was in chemo, I used neulasta through A/C and T treatments. I even had it while I was on the xeloda (for less than 2 weeks)  because my neutrophils dropped to 0.1! If I infer correctly, you aren't taking neulasta now during taxol? That might another question for your oncologist.

Hoping you have an excellent day today. Hugs,
Jacklin

Hi Jacklin,

The Oncologist's nurse is actually the one who gave me the print out for the Glutamin and they are aware I am taking it. We discussed it again yesterday because I asked if there are any side effects but she could not find any when she searched the computer. The chemo nurse is the one who referred me to her Acupuncturist who is an MD..he is Chinese and his office is just down the street from the CTRC (Cancer Treatment & Research Center of University of Texas). So everything has been talked about but I always wonder anyway. Now after my third Taxol treatment I have had absolutely no side effects except the low Neutrophiles which I did not know about until the blood test. I was referred to this Oncologist by my Oncologist at MD Anderson specifically for the Taxol treatments. This is somebody he had worked with for 10 years so I am thinking I am in good hands.

Hoping things will keep going well and thank you for your response. Hope you are doing well.

Renate

Hi Renate,

Glad your oncology team knows what's happening and what you're doing to look after yourself. Sounds like they're a good team.

I'm doing ok, each day I sense I am a bit better than the previous day. I have to be patient as my body heals and it sure is taking time. Eating is still an issue and causes a lot of belly pain but I can't lose any more weight. I am now taking morphine about an hour before meal times so that I can eat more comfortably. Strength is returning to my legs and I can now walk around the block every day. I have to stay active so that I don't get blood clots - been there, done that and NOT doing that again!  Thanks for asking. Be well.

Hi Renate,
I struggled with my WBC count throughout Taxol. I had Neulasta during AC but it wasn't part of the treatment plan with Taxol. It caused me to miss several weeks of chemo when it dropped too low. I didn't get bad neuropathy but the tips of my toes became numb ( and still are). Hopefully that will get better soon!

Hi Amy,

Did they give you anything to bring up your white blood count when it was really low? On 10/3 my Neutrophils were at 1.8 and then this past Monday they were down to 1.3. To me that seems like a big drop but then I don't really know how this works. Having chemo weekly I don't see how this is supposed to go up. When did you start feeling the neuropathy? Did you do any of the prevention they suggest to avoid the neuropathy? I am still feeling fine and have lots of energy to keep up my exercise but I am very worried about catching a cold so I wear a mask when I go out to the store etc and I am washing my hands like crazy.  Nine more treatments seems like a big mountain to climb. I am hoping your toes will go back to normal soon. Have you started on your radiation yet?

wishing you all the best

Renate
