Here is the question and I don't have any ideas, how about you?

"My mom was dx with breast cancer in June. She had 6 months of chemo and then had her breast and lymph nodes removed on the right side in December. All I remember from the cancer was high nuclear grade. Sunday my dad found her unconsciouss on the floor. She went to the ER and from last night to this morning her blood went down from 10 to 7???? not too sure what that means, but they gave her 2 units of blood. They are unsure why she passed out since the blood count was fine in the ER. Today she has blood in her stool. She is on the 5 year chemo pill. Does anyone have any thoughts. I am really worried that the cancer has spread. She had a PET scan in December (after the surgery) and it did not detect any cancer. Could a new cancer develop this quickly or could the chemo pill cause gastro bleeding? Thanks for any thoughts you may have."

Thanks for answering,

Dave

Dave,

I'm afraid I can't offer much advice or help.  I was confused when the poster said her mom was on the 5 year cancer pill.  Do you think she meant a drug like tamoxifen where you take it for 5 years after chemo?  Maybe she's having a side effect from the drug/pill she's taking.  I don't know what medicine she was on so it's difficult to offer any suggestions.

I just lost my mom to TNBC after a 9 month awful chemo battle with recurrence after 3 years. Mets to brain and lung---first. Then Xeloda treatment was not very productive then Taxol worked well until the cancer found a way around it. I am so scared that I may end up with TNBC. I have dense breast tissue just like my mom. Mom was 60 at first diagnosis Stage 1 with no sentinel node activity. Help!

Hello Advocate,

I met a women a few days ago and noticed that she had a port, and she told me she was a ten year survivor of TNBC.  But now she has cancer in her other breast.  I don't know if it is a continuation of her original cancer or a new one, but I did see in her eyes the determination to fight it.

I too am scared of it returning, and I really don't know how to respond to your comment except I would probably get gene testing and then go from there.  A co-worker's wife sister had breast cancer and she died of it, the other sister then got breast cancer.  The co-worker decided to get a double mastectomy because she did not want to get breast cancer.  That is pretty extreme to me since she had no evidence of the disease.

Breast cancer is horrible to get, but once you have it you must go forward until you cannot.  I saw determination in the eyes of the ten year survivor and I know she will fight the new disease with everything she has because for her there are no other options.

She was a very strong women, I have known people with cancer survive and live quite a while.  One friend has had four types of cancer's since she was 55 years old and she is now 87.

So we just move forward, one step at a time, trying not to worry too much about it and in the extreme taking precautions like my co-worker's wife did.

I would suggest getting professional help, wishing you the best!

Dave

Hi Dave,
I have witnessed this cancer up close and personal. It scares me terribly! I know that I am still emotional but I do have plans in the future for a prophylactic mastectomy if prayers lead me through. I have another condition called Antiphosphlipid Antibody Syndrome (causes clots) therefore I am not a candidate for preventative chemo or chemo. That is scary! My maternal aunt had breast cancer at 30. I suppose she has a purpose as now she's 70 and still cancer free. I need to take a break and cool off. The stress and grief are getting to me. I ask for memorials to be made to the TNBC Foundation.
Thank you for your encouragement and support.
My mother has a caringbrigde website and the journals take one on the 9 month journey of metastatic breast cancer (TNBC).
GOD bless,
Samantha

Dear Dave,

like to help but need more info...sorry...

Dear Samantha,

a case of early onset breast cancer in your family in addition to your situation now is certainly enough to warrant seeing a Certified Genetic Counselor, in my view..please send me a PM and I will try to help you find one, if you wish.

sorry for your loss and you shall be in my prayers...

Steve

Dear Samantha,

I know from first hand experience that sometimes you have to grieve what happened to your mother (the cancer) before you can grieve about the loss of her. I know; it sounds complex, but my mother had a catastrophic stroke in 1999. It was something she always feared and she was left in a vegetative state as a result. She lived for 5 weeks in that state, but it was enough for me to be completely devestated. I was in a grief therapy group for a whole year after she died.

I know you are in shock right now and that's OK. Give yourself time to mourn and grieve your loss. Don't let anyone put any time restraints on your grieving period.

I will be praying for you and please accept my condolances for the loss of your mother Bobbie.

Love in Christ,

Lillie

Hi Samantha! Welcome to our TNBC Family!
You will find that the members here are very knowledgable about the many facets of TNBC so use their expertise and personal experiences to help you on your journey! We are here for you....

I lost my mom almost three years ago, with cancer too and she is my best friend and confidante.  I miss her like crazy, we have been through so much together! I know she is with me all the time and I see the many signs of her presence each day.  So, hold your mom in your heart and she will help you on this journey.  Grieve when you need to because when we hold things in it just gets worse....I thought I was cool with everything but yesterday my world came crashing down around my ears.  After so long of not feeling just going through the motions of day to day issues and treatments, it all came up like a volcanoe and I purged from the top of my head to the tip of my toes....What a relief I feel today! I am like a rag doll... So go with it Samantha and let your venting come.  That is what this site is for...Help on the journey of an unusual life.

We also have our spiritual thread and I find so much consolation there through my sisters and brothers that the word of God feeds me daily and I meditate on the thoughts that are written!  Check it out..  HUGS Hugfrom Helen in NS

Samantha, I forgot to mention that I met a wonderful priest on Caring Bridge, Father Strang and he was going through treatment so I was coaching him through his journey as well as the power of prayer.  He is doing well and is on sabbatical right now.

Also, a friend of mine's daughter had a page on the same site.  She was in her late 20's and had a double lung transplant.  She unfortunately did not make it through the rejection period and passed, but she fought the GREAT FIGHT and had many people to rally and support her through her journey!  Caring Bridge is very good to follow through with a daily diary.  I will read your mom's journey for sure.  God Bless, Helen in NS
