Lillie and Lee,

Thanks for your excellent posts.   My advice to anyone newly diagnosed:

1.  Get a 2nd Opinion before deciding upon treatment.  Make sure one is from an NCCN Facility or teaching university.  Travel if you must.

2.  Don't settle for anything less than Standard of Care treatment.  Look at and consider Clinical Trials and see if they are appropriate for your situation.

3.  Ask questions.  Bring someone with you.  Take notes or record the meetings.  Throw everything you have at this disease and live with no regrets.

Donna

Im having a hard time getting in with my second opinion. Insurance and scheduling issues for the doctor. My question is how soon after surgery to start chemo has the best outcome? I am having my port placed tomorrow morning. Im worried when I see my oncologist tomorrow he is going to want me to start. I also get my tumor marker lab results tomorrow.  What is the best chemo cocktail for triple negatives. I also want to make sure when I see AC that means adriamycin and cytoxan. Do they give both of those drugs at the same time?

Thanks

Annafriday,

AC given together is adriamycin and cytoxan. A typical standard of care chemo is AC followed by Taxol. Sometimes Taxol is given first. Some women may get a different chemo combo, usually part of a clinical trial (a platinum drug like carboplatin or cisplatin). I think the optimal time to start chemo is within 3 months after surgery. I started about 3 1/2 weeks after my surgery.

I understand how difficult it is to get a 2nd opinion. Will your onc help? Most good oncs should be open to their patients seeking a second opinion. When I had my recurrence and was fighting with the schedulers for a 2nd opinion, they were dragging their feet. My onc asked if I had the appt yet (this was on a thur or fri). I told her about my difficulty. She made a call for me to the other onc and within an hour I had a call back for an appt on Monday.

Noticed on the Forum Home page, that today is your BIrthday.

Hope your day was special for you.
Sending lots of good Birthday wishes for things you enjoy.

Thank you so much for the birthday wish Judy.

I have one Taxol left scheduled for June 7th.  so basically 3 weeks left of this evil routine that is saving my life.  I have my surgery consult on Tuesday the 4th so I can look at the next phase of this process.

Thankful for all of you.
