I am through 2 chemo's and noticed yesterday I am having problem swallowing as if the food is too big to go down my throat. Should I be concerned with this or does anyone have any recommendations how on how resolve this? My throat is just really sore and no mouth ulcers just the painful swallowing.
Diagnosed 4/29
Lymph nodes clear on MRI on 5/20
2x2 statge 1 or 11A
AC and T 6/9 - 9/13
final mri- no lymph 4mm or less residual
Lump right side on 10/16
7 nodes taken - all clear - clean margins

Tracyinva,

I'd call your onc's office and let them know about this side effect.  This is something they should know about and could possibly offer a suggestion.  I had an issue like this, but it was from having radiation to the supraclavicle area that damaged my throat.  My rad onc had me swallow some children's liquid tylenol or advil to coat the throat lining.

Need advice about mouth sores. I am having my third AC chemo on Tuesday and just a few days ago, I started getting canker sores in my mouth. I am using Biotene and gargling with baking soda and water, etc. but does anyoen know if this will stay from now on through the rest of my chemo? Or does it come and go? And is is just during AC or will I still get this during Taxol? Any help will be appreciated.

DX 03/13, Stage 1 Grade 3, 1.2 centimeter, sentinel node taken, no lymph node involvement, 0.8 mm. clear margins around tumor. AC started 6/3, 4DD AC, 4 Taxol, every two weeks.

Hi Hopeful,

I had mouth sores with AC.  My doctor prescribed Magic Mouthwash and it worked great.  Kind of like a numb feeling you get from the dentist, but it gets you through it.  It went away soon after I stopped AC.  Good luck with your treatments - hope that's the worst of your side effects.

Thank you. Is it actually called Magic Mouthwash? I will have to ask my oncologist Tuesday when I go for treatment. So you didn't experience this during Taxol? I am glad for you that you finished a while ago....

My throat was always sore after the neulasta shot for a day or two.  But always got better and went away.

Yes, I know but it really is called Magic Mouthwash.  The Stop and Shop pharmacist knew just what it was.  Apparently most doctors have their own concoction that they like to prescribe, but for the most part they are very similar.

Thank you.  You'll get through it quicker than you think.  Taxol is a different animal from AC.  Most people find it much easier.  Hope that's you.

Hi Julie,

I had a sore throat during treatment sometimes but never knew what it was from.  I was always worried that I was getting sick.  Thanks for clearing that up.

I got this magic mouthwash but all it does is numb my mouth and not my throat which is what is hurting. :(

I would definitely ask your onc because it could be related to acid reflux which is a common S/E of A/C treatments...the production of acid can erode the esophagus. This was something I had as a result of the chemotherapy course I had. There's medicine the oncologist can prescribe.
