I just finished my A/C and in two weeks I'm do to start Paclitaxel (Taxol). It was going to be every two weeks for four treatments. I keep reading or hearing lots of ladies having it every week for 12 weeks.

I spoke with my daughter and he said there is no studies showing one week is better than two but If I'm more comfortable with that he would be happy to do it.

Is one more aggressive than the other and do you end up with more chemo from one or the other?

So confused. I need to decide by my next appt.

Thank you to anyone that can shade some light on this for me. I just know I can't look back with regrets. It will make crazy worried.

Dear Dawncoskren,

I had Taxol, 7 years ago, after I finished A/C.  I had it dose dense every other week for 4 treatments.

It was after that that I began to read about weekly treatments for 12 weeks.

I was worried that my treatments weren't as effective as the 12 weekly treatments.  But, as I've read in the years since then, it sounds as though one is just as effective as the other.  The big difference is that smaller doses are administered when taken weekly times 12.  This probably cuts down on the side effects overall.

Please don't worry anymore.  A lot of us are still here and cancer free, after receiving our treatments both ways.

Love and God Bless,
Lillie

Please don't laugh because I have absolutely no idea of the right answer to your question, but I do have a thought.

Sometimes I think Stage I may be the hardest to get a grasp of when it comes to treatment. After all, it is a very early stage and should be very amenable to treatment. BUT, here's where I come from. That perception is one often borrowed from the long history of bc treatment which is not Tneg. Tneg even at Stage I is an aggressive beast that just doesn't kill off that easily. This site sees way too many of our sisters who are, in my non medical professional opinion, under treated and return with a 2nd bout.

In my case, because things were advanced it was a no brainer to throw the kitchen sink at my tumor. But even the kitchen sink had different options and so I began to use my mantra, 'give me more options, you're my medical team you tell me what will give me the best outcome' and my favorite, 'now give me more options!'  I'm particularly unimpressed by a comment of, it doesn't matter, it's your choice. My personal alarm bells scream at me.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I wouldn't just be asking whether each week or every other week is best, I'd be asking if I should do it every week (to maintain a level of chemo in my system rather than a HIT) but can we continue with the chemo beyond what the team is suggesting?

It's never an over reaction to ask for a 2nd opinion or to ask how many patients who have Tneg a doctor has treated. It''s also a good indicator question to ask how a doctor treats a Tneg patient differently that a positive patient. I want to see fear & determination in my onc's eyes at the dx not ho hum.

Mainy,
Please don't laugh when I say this, but you have written my thoughts.  I'm no expert, but I have seen and read a lot about triple negative since 2006.   Thank you for opening the door for me to agree with you.

There are oncologists, who when getting a triple negative patients, should send them out the door for a second opinion, or a third or ever howmany until they get a doctor familiar with treating triple negative.  So many oncs. do not know who! what! when! where! about treating triple negative.

By virtue of volunteering at the clinic where my oncologists works; If I meet a triple negative sister, I see her having the stove and refrigerator thrown at her.   He has compassion, fear and determination in his eyes and ho-hum is not a part of his language.   I was lucky 7 years ago to get an oncologist who is triple negative savvy.

Thanks,
Lillie

He is my 3rd onc. They all said the same thing 4 doses every other week.
I would have not thought anything of it if I didn't know a bunch of people did the longer one.
Like you I want to through everything at it. Thats why I'm tryi g to figure out which is more aggressive.

Thanks for your thoughts
