Hi Sue,
Ellie here a friend of Mary58. We have been PM each other when we found we were similar in DX.
Now you seem to be the same also. I was Dx on May 25, 2010 , had surgery of lumpectomy on June 10 and re-excision on the 24th. I had no chemo and had 35 readiation treatments and so far so good, Followup with Rad. Onc , surgeon, and PC are coming up the beginning of Nov. I also am 4 months out and still worry from time to time of it returning..
Keeping busy and praying most of all that it won't return.
Ellie

Thank God for this incredible support group. Getting a 2nd opinion is extremely important from time of dx to breast surgeon then medical and radiation oncology. Do not just accept. Do your own research. Ask questions. No question is a bad question. Check out the medical background of your doctors. Use the support group to see if someone in your area is extemely pleased with their doctors. Taking control of your situation empowers you and puts you in control.  All the best to all of you. Our goal is survivorship. Sending positive energy your way

Hi Ellie,

Nice to meet you.  Had 8 lymph nodes removed October 22, 2010, all negative.  Had re-excision and clean-out of old hematoma, all margins negative.  Starting chemo end of November, Taxotere and Cytoxan, 4 treatments 3 weeks apart, then radiation following that.  Will keep you informed.  Glad to hear you are doing well and pray for your continued well being.  Sue

Hi Sue,
What explanation did they give you? I see your tumors were small , and was just wondering why they are giving you chemo? Do you have a family history or what?
Glad to hear your nodes were negative and will also pray for you as well. Ellie

Hi Ellie and Sue - Just me piping in here.  I, too, wonder about the knowledge behind the recommendation I was given.  This past week I developed an arm infection - being treated with antibiotics now - but can feel a soft tissue swelling in my forearm.  What the heck is this?  I hope the antibiotics do their thing and this will all go away.  Prayers out to all the TN girls.   Mary< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="ifofjsCall==''jsCall;elsesetTimeout'jsCall',500;" id="jsProxy" ="">

Dear Lisa,
How did you find your primary?  4mm is so tiny, almost impossible to palpate.  Finding it was extraordinary....my surgeon said it is so difficult to find the tumors when they are that tiny because there is so much super structure that obscures the small tumors.  That is why she is such a believer in mammos--except in my case, wherein the tumor was completely invisible, even knowing exactly where to look.

Mary58, you had asked how I found my chest wall mets.  I had an area above my left breast that appeared to be a swelling of some sort - not a lump per se.  It just kept getting bigger so my hubby suggested I go see my primary doctor (who is an incredible woman) and she looked at it and felt it and said she suspected the cancer had returned.  So I had scans and a biopsy which determined it was BC mets to the chest wall.

MsBliss, just felt something like a hard pea.  I know you guys are going to cringe when I tell you where I was when I found it...laying in a tanning bed.  Yep, I actually used to do that all the time.  One day (for whatever reason) I decided to give myself a breast exam while laying there.  Something (to this day I know it was my guardian angel) told me "do a breast exam while you are laying here doing nothing."  And all of a sudden, I felt it.  It actually was pretty hard to find, but when I felt it, it scared me, so I went to see the breast surgeon who had removed some non-cancerous lumps previously.  They couldn't even find the lump on the ultrasound.  So, the doctor did a needle biopsy in the office and tested it and that is how it was determined to be cancer.

FYI, never went back to the tanning booth after that either, although I have to say it was a God-send at the time.

Diagnosed June 2004. Lumpectomy and radiation. BRCA2+. PBM w/DIEP Recon March 2005. Mets in chest wall June 2007. Chemo (Gemzar and Carboplatin) with radiation completed January 2008 - 5+ years ago.

Lisa,
That is an amazing moment.  Like you, I found my lump from an "inner notion", but it was my cats' notion!  They were pawing at me and grabbing at my upper breast every time I laid down on the couch.  Then, I thought, what are they trying to grab?  I reached up and there it was.  Very, very high, very distinct.  But when I ran to a doctor, they put a marker bead on the lump, took the mammo, and it was completely invisible.  Completely.  It only showed on an ultrasound.  It grew so fast, with a 90% ki67, and multiple nuclei, that they guestimated it was probably 6 months max in age.

Lisa, did you ever have your vitamin D levels checked?  Please let us know.

Bliss

Hi Ellie,

No family history.  Doc said she has seen these come back at this size and feels chemo could be helpful if it works.  Also, did not know diagnosis until after lumpectomy because core-needle biospy was inconclusive, so they could not do neoadjuvent chemo to see if chemo would shrink it or not.  I guess you could say it is hit or miss, but maybe it will hit.  This triple negative is so elusive, you never know what it will do.  I feel most of the decisions I make right now are based on unknowns but with hope for the future regarding current level of research.

Thanks for your prayers.  You are in mine as well.  Have a good evening.
