Dear Holly--I'm not sure where you are in your treatment. Chemo, post surgery, rads???? My docs encouraged me to keep up my exercise routine as much as I felt like thoughout treatment. I went back to a daily swim as soon as the drains were removed post surgery and went back to weight training twice a week about 10 days later. I know there are different theories about weight lifting and lymphodema, but I have not had any problems with that, and I did have lots of lymphs removed. I admit there were some days during the radiation that I was too tired to do anything, but most days it made me feel better.
Good luck,
Sharon

I was unable to work and work out during chemo. Working won ! Once I started rads I went back to running and weight training. The dr.s at that time were pretty clueless as to what I should expect or what I should or should not do. I quit weight training when doing chest excersizes no longer felt comfortable. Then quit running when I could no longer wear my running bra comfortably. Resumed once my skin had healed. Doing weights was difficult at that point because it seemed to really bring on the hot flashes. I was uncertain whether to suck up and work through it or quit. I started yoga at that point. The hot flashes still came during a strenous part but were not as intense. All this was many years ago .

I have always been very active physically, and remain so thus far (in middle of chemo). I just rejoined Curves since the local gym closed and I am happier there now anyway, given the fact that I will soon be a bald, middle age woman. It's a brainless workout and there is always someone to talk to. Plus, you aren't surrounded by as many young & healthy bodies to remind you of your advancing years. FWIW PS- I am very active with horses and continue to work them also.
