I was dignosed with Triple Negative Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma cat. 1, grade 3, no lymph node involvement. I had 33 full breast raditation treatments that involved the chest wall and under the arm. I was told I had a 95 percent chance that the cancer wouldn't return. I can't help but wonder if that's true after researching it further. |

Hi Barbie,
Welcome to our group. We're so glad you found us.
Is radiation the only treatment you received for your breast cancer? Did you have a lumpectomy? Did you receive chemo?
TNBC is a bit trickier than the positive kind and a bit more aggressive, so of course we want to hit it with all we can right at the beginning.

If I had been a candidate for radiation, I was told the treatment plan would have been a lumpectomy with total breast radiation, so, what you're being told seems to be in line with what I was told. IF you have done a lumpectomy. Then the BIG thing is that the margins were clear. There are actually standards as to how far away from the edge of the specimen the tumor should be for some degree of peace of mind. Sorry I don't remember where I saw it. I've been searching a lot lately, but I can probably come up with it if your doctor doesn't have that information. This is in no way medical advise, I'm just letting you know what my understanding of the information they gave me is.

Hi Barbieb, welcome to the forum.
It is scary sometimes to read what we do but please remember we are all individuals with different pathologies, genetics, etc.. We have some long time survivors who stop by occasionally to remind us it can be done.
Do you have family history?
Even if you don't you might condsider consulting with a certfied genetic counselor as 85% of brca 1 women are tnbc.
Here is a website that is very helpful regarding brca 1/2 mutations.
