I'm coming up on 5 years out, NED. My mother lived for 15+ years with breast cancer (2 reoccurrences). We assume that she was TN and BRCA 1 and/or 2 as that her mother died of BC and both of them were diagnosed in their 30's. I think that my mother's original tumor was never completely wiped out as that the medical technology at the time was fairly primitive (she had one of the first lumpectomies and oral chemo and very primitive rads) and they had not yet discovered TNBC. She was glad that she got to see her children grow up and told me on her deathbed that that's why she fought so hard to stay alive. To her 15 years was enough. I'm shooting for at least 25+. My surgeon considers me "cured", my onco won't go there but thinks I have great odds at being NED forever. As a TNBC survivor I eat carefully and well (pescatarian and low fat), exercise (although never enough) and try hard to de stress my life. I am willing to do all that the studies indicate to keep BC away. Ladies, do whatever it takes- work out, do yoga, lose weight, low fat diet, it's all worth it to stay here and healthy, you can do it!

Dx June 06 stage 1 at age 46, no nodes, clean margins, Ki-67 at 54, Bilateral Mastectomy, 4 rounds AC, complete hysterectomy Aug O7. Mother and Grandmother both died of breast cancer dx in their 30's.

Congrats Susanb for being NED for almost 5 years. Fantastic!

My mother also passed from BC - 15 years ago at 55. Her treatment was similar if not the same as your mother's.  I often wonder if she was was TN too - her surgical records were dug up when i did genetic testing but no info on TN

Denise,
I am thrilled at your friend's survival. I only hope I can go that long this time without a recurrence.

I, for one, am NOT scared to read survival statistics. In fact, I really appreciate them so I know that I'll be one to move the 60% / 40% ratio more to 65% / 35% and beyond. I get nervous, too about dying but, I have young children and also look forward to graduations and marriages and grandchildren, so I pull myself up and get in the car rider line to pick them up.
