I was dx with TNBC 7/12 - 1.3 cm, grade 3, no nodes. Had lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. Finished all treatment in Feb. haven't felt great, achy legs and fatigue since treatment ended. Had bone scan because of these symptoms which was normal. My first mammo is in July and I'm already getting anxious. I had just had a breast MRI 3 months before I was dx and it was normal. I had breast pain and went to have it checked out. It didn't show up on mammo or ultrasound either. They just palpated area on exam and sent me to surgeon to have biopsy. (I have strong family hx and had been closely followed for years at breast center). How do people deal with this anxiety? Really wish PET scans were part of follow up care. Anybody else dealing with achy legs and hands after treatment complete?

Kerin,

Sadly, all of what you describe is pretty normal for all of us. I had terible muscle aches during Taxol and magnesium seemed to help, but over a year out and I am still getting a lot of muscle cramping. Joint pains are common too. I had periodic problems with arthritis in my hands and it is so much worse now. Between Omega 3, Chondroitin and Glucosamine, and ground flax seed, it helps a lot bt never gone.

As awful as it sounds to contemplate at times, exercise does help with the achiness too. My joint pain and walking like an 80 year old has gotten so much better since I started walking/running and riding my bike a lot more this spring.

I have no cure for the anxiety...just keep plugging along!

Kerin,
Absolutely achy muscles and legs can be quite common after chemo ends.  Mine lasted for at least a year.  I, too, had a bone scan to make sure it wasn't metastasis.  It's perfectly normal to feel anxious as any follow-up test approaches.  You just have to tell yourself that it's going to be OK.  Try not to go to those dark places.  (Easier said than done, I know!)  What chemo did you have?  I've heard taxotere can be especially bad about long term aches.  Wish you the best!
